Show MAPLET0N TAX LEVY MAY BE RAISED FOR WATER PROJECT If the Mapleton water system is extended it will necessitate a raise in the mill levy from 12 to 19 for the one project alone, citizens citi-zens were told in a town meeting' held . recently in the Mapleton school. High interest in city problems was manifested in the meeting which was called by the City Planning Plan-ning Commission. Robert Bird, chairman was in charge. A financial report was presented to the group by Lee Sanderson who quoted the revenues and expenditures expendi-tures in a special outline prepared for the meeting. The seven mill levy raise would only finance one of the projects that Mapleton citizens hoped to sponsor, according to I. Dale Despain, Utah County Planning Director, who reported on the meeting. The reaction of the townspeople towns-people was to raise the water rates as a means of paying for the system's sys-tem's maintenance and to investigate investi-gate any request for extension carefully before any action is taken. At present the revenue from water rates only takes care of about half the operation's cost, it was stated. |
