Show FRUITMAN URGES UTAH COOPERATIVE Belief that Utah can emulate the example of Washington state fruit shippers and materially increase in-crease production within the state was expressed Saturday by Frank G. Shelley, executive secretary, Utah state department pf agriculture agricul-ture farm bureau. Mr. Shelley said growers in Washington had organized their own cooperative shipping and packing units, handle their own crops and substantially increased their yearly business volume. "It can be done in Utah, too," he declared. "We have a good example ex-ample in the egg marketing cooperatives co-operatives in the state. Since the producers got together and formed their own organization they now have central packing, uniform grades and increased outside markets." mar-kets." The official said too many producers pro-ducers in the past have depended on private shippers to move their produce and have lost heavily when the crop volume exceeded existing shipping facilities. He said this year's Jonathan apple crop should find a good market and good prices nationally when ready for shipment. |
