Show " President Greets . Fortner Buddy Of World War I Seldom do "home folk" have the honor of being President of the United States special guests as were Mr. and Mrs. Frank A. Brannon of Springville, Spring-ville, during President Harry S. Truman's visit in Utah Tuesday. Tues-day. Mr. Brannon, a member of "Captain' Harry's" Battery D, 129th Field Afltillery in World War I, was greeted by the president as he boarded the train in Provo with the words, "Hello Mike, My Buddy." Fm)m thereon Mr. Brannon and Mrs. Brannon were his special spe-cial guests, riding and isiting with ,the president and his wife and daughter in their car to Salt Lake City, where they had a special automobile in the parade, pa-rade, and attended the banquet and reception as his personal friends. Mr. and Mrs. Brannon met the president in Provo at his request both by letter and a telegram which he sent just an hour before leaving Washington Wash-ington D. C. Mr. Brannon, a native of the president's home state Missouri, is believed to be the only Utahn who was in the former captain's battery in World War I. He said he had not seen the President since he shook hands with him 29 years ago. But he was still the courteous always the same fine man he had known in, his earlier years. And Mrs. Brannon was thrilled thril-led as any woman would be with her visit with the first family and she treasures the autographed card from the president, the banquet place cards and the official badges which signified they were members mem-bers of the president's special party during his visit in Utah. |
