Discusses Many Community Problems "pffUrts to Be Made to Enlist Younger Boys And Women and Girls to Aid .With Farm Work And Food Processing This Year "Trlsentative group of local Chamber of Commerce members met at Memorial hall, Monday evening, to discuss several major community problems. The meeting was under direction direc-tion of A. O. Thorn, Chamber president pres-ident and among the subjects dis- cussed was that of the labor situation sit-uation in Springville. especially in connection with the harvesting and canning of farm crops. It was pointed out during the . discussion that the Geneva steel plant is enlisting boys as young as 16 years for work at the industrial in-dustrial plant and this would naturally result in a shortage of farm help. It was therefore decided de-cided that a special effort was to be made to enlist the assistance of all younger boys and girls and women to aid with farm and food processing work this spring and Bulimy-" x Another problem brought to the attention of the meeting was that of importing foreign labor for work in the vicinity, and members mem-bers present were urged to do all in their power to establish a tol- ; erant attitude toward such labor as it is necessary in many cases to take care of crops which would ; otherwise be wasted. Duties of the Chamber planning board were discussed during the evening and it was decided that they should work for the extension exten-sion of all streets in the suburban t section and the east part of the city, to make more home sites available. The board, working in cooperation with the city council, was also instructed to work on plans for a uniform parking system sys-tem in Springville as a beautifi-cation beautifi-cation movement. |
