Show Jaycees Offer Prizes In i BeautiRcation, Gardens War Stamps Offered Citizens For Efforts In Home Improvement And Victory Garden Contest With Everyone Urged To Enter Two substantial prizes are offered citizens of Springville for their efforts in home beautification and the best victory garden to be raised here during the growing season. The locaH Junior Chamber of Commerce has announced that a prize of $10 in War Savings Stamps will be given giv-en to the citizen who can show the most improvement in his personal property surroundings, and a similar simi-lar prize for the best victory garden. gar-den. These prizes should prove an added incentive for community-minded community-minded citizens to put forth special spec-ial effort this year in improving their surroundings and converting that weed-infested lot into food through a home-grown garden. With food rationing affecting everyone, ev-eryone, a garden will prove of inestimable in-estimable benefit this year in filling fill-ing the gap when the points run short. It will also relieve the transportation trans-portation situation by freeing facilities fa-cilities to hasten food to the men in the fighting forces and our allies al-lies on the many battle fronts. To start the campaign off to a good start, the Jaycees sponsored this week's issue of the Herald, soliciting ads from the business houses and cooperation from the citizens in general. The committee, under the direction direc-tion of Howard Maycock as board supervisor, and assisted by Taylor Burt, Lee Miner, Blaine Wheeler, Wallace Patrick, Burt Taylor and Kay Johnson, wish to express their appreciation to the business men, city administration, and civic clubs for their wholehearted cooperation in this project as the results can readily be seen by the reader in perusing the many ads in this issue. Previous campaigns have shown that Springville citizens are proud of their city and enjoy clean and beautiful surroundings, and this year should prove no exception. The committee on this project urges urg-es everyone to enter the contest as soon as possible, and, whether win or lose, the city will greatly benefit in clean and healthful surroundings. |
