Black of this city will celebrate her 87th birthday today at her home on East Center street. Active for her age, she enjoys en-joys doing her own housework and takes an interest in current events. A daughter of George W. and Martha Townsend Lufkin, Mrs. Black was born in Salt Lake City, March 26, 1855. The family lived in Salt Lake City until she was seven years of age and then moved to Virgin, where they lived one year. During her early life she lived at various times at Panaca, Nev., and St. George, also at Salt Lake, North Point, Richfield, and Logan. She was married to William A. Barron in the Salt Lake Endowment-house, October 12, 1872. He died in 1925, and she later married William G. Black in the Salt Lake temple. She proudly asserts she had two boys in World War I, one in the army and one in the navy. She is the mother of 11 sons and daughters, with seven living: Mrs. Minerva Gillette of Phoenix, Ariz.; Virgil Barron, Seattle, Wash.; Mrs. E. J. Norton, Salt Lake City; F. Henry Barron, Pocatello, Ida.; J. Clifford Barron, Salt Lake City; G. L. Barron, Springville; A. C. Barron, Kaysville; also 19 grandchildren grand-children and 17 great-grandchildren. A LOVELY PARTY WAS HELD SUNDAY EVENING at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Howard How-ard Smith to celebrate the birthdays birth-days of Mr. Smith and Mrs. Smith's brother, William Brereton. One long table was set for the birthday dinner served early in the evening. A lovely centerpiece of daffodils and tall yellow tapers was arranged, together with two beautifully decorated birthday cakes on each end of the table. Mrs. Smith was assisted with the party by her sister-in-law, Mrs. William Brereton. The guest list included Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Brereton, Mr. and Mrs. Elmo Brereton, Mary Ellen Brereton, Mrs. Amelia Brereton, Mr. and Mrs. Vester Clark, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Olsen, Mrs. Will Olsen, all of Provo, Mrs. LeRoy Mayne and daughter, of Gypsum, Colo., the guest of honor and hostess. hos-tess. During the dinner Mrs. Mayne and Mrs. Smith entertained entertain-ed with readings. |
