Show U ytdws of Social Cvertts - - - - 1 1DIES LITERARY EJOY ART PROGRAM AND DINNER A delightful evening was spent bv members of the Ladies Literary ciub Thursday evening at the Valley Val-ley Tavern, guests of Mrs. Blanche . Beal and Mrs. Arva Bone, at their annual art dinner and program. Dinner was served at 5:30 o'clock at one long table which held an attractive centerpiece of pink sweet peas emphasizing a pink and green decorative scheme. president Lela Packard presided, pre-sided, and during the dinner interesting in-teresting comments and quotations on art were given by members. A revision of the constitution and by-laws of the club to conform with those of federated clubs was read by Mrs. Minnie Groesbeck and discussed by club members. After dinner, the group assembled assem-bled at the art gallery, where Gien Turner, high school instructor, instruc-tor, gave a talk on some of the paintings. Nineteen club members were present. LEGIOX AUXILIARY ENTERTAINS GUESTS Legionnaires and husbands were guests of members of the Legion auxiliary at their regular monthly meeting held Wednesday evening in the Memorial hall. Miss Velma Mendenhall gave a talk on child welfare, and several musical numbers were also given. Business problems were discussed including a letter concerning proposed pro-posed hospital in the community, action on which was deferred "until "un-til the Legion's decision. The auxiliary voted to contribute contri-bute to the art fund and to take out five memberships in the cancer can-cer control campaign. The annual Mothers' day entertainment was announced for Wednesday eve-ing, eve-ing, May 8. In conclusion, refreshments were served to approximately seventy auxiliary members and guests. Hostesses for the occasion were Mrs. Mabel Brown, Mrs. Louisa Wainwright, Mrs. Marjorie Frandsen. Mrs. Dorothy Smith, Mrs. Hilda Grant, and Mrs. Julia Sumslon. Vice-President Ada Barron Bar-ron presided. D. U. P. CAAIP SPRINGVILLE ENTERTAINED AT BIRD'S Mrs. Menette Bird was hostess to Daughters of the Utah Pioneers, Pio-neers, Camp Springville, Thursday' Thurs-day' afternoon at her home. Assisting As-sisting hostesses were Mrs. Martha Mar-tha J. Alleman and Mrs. Almina Mendenhall. An interesting program included includ-ed music by the camp chorus composed com-posed of Mrs. Lois Martindale, Mrs. Beth Barrett, Mrs. Pearl Sumslon, Mrs. Rena Strong, with Miss Bess Mendenhall accompanying. accompany-ing. A history of Thomas Tame, early pioneer of this community, was given by a daughter, Mrs. Rose Blackett. The class leader, Mrs. Myrtle Hart, gave the lesson on art and sculptors, emphasizing the lives and works of Cyrus E. Dallin and John Hafen. At the conclusion of the meeting, meet-ing, refreshments were served to thirty members and guests. MAPLETON D. V. P. ENTERTAINED Mrs. Sadie Whiting, Mrs. Hat-tie Hat-tie Jensen, Mrs. Senate Menden-Jall, Menden-Jall, and Mrs. Phoebe Perry were hostesses to Daughters of the Jah Pioneers, Camp Mapleton, mursday afternoon. JANICE JENSEN FETED AT BIRTHDAY PARTY In honor of little Janice Jensen, Jen-sen, 5, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence L. Jensen, a delightful birthday party was held Monday afternoon at her home. Games were played and refreshments re-freshments served to the following follow-ing little guests who were bidden to the party: Janet Beardall, Geneal Bird, Bill Bird, June Thorn, Louie Thorn, Gerry Lambson, Carline Banner, Carol Sumsion, Robert Holley, Fritz Boyer, Geraldine Jensen, and the guest of honor. MRS. NORMA NOE HOSTESS TO AVE DELMA CLUB Members of the Ave Delma club enjoyed a delightful bridge party Wednesday night at the home of Mrs. Norma Noe. Following a delicious luncheon served at small tables, bridge was played, with prizes going to Elsie Robinson and Naomi Beardall, both of whom were special guests. Members attending were Mrs. Dolly Smith, Mrs. Coe Straw, Mrs. Birdie Thorpe, Mrs. Gladys Averett, Aver-ett, Mrs. Hortense Harward, Mrs. Helen Robbins, Mrs. Carrie Jol-ley, Jol-ley, Mrs. Inez Chader, Mrs. Alice Ence, Mrs. "Ann Johnson, and the hostess. LES VIVANTBS ENTERTAIN GUESTS AT HAASE CAFE A chicken dinner and dance in the form of a no-hostess party, was enjoyed by members of the Les Vivantes club and their partners part-ners Thursday night at Haase cafe. Guests were seated at one long table, with pink roses forming an attractive centerpiece. The remainder re-mainder of the evening was spent in dancing. They visited in Los Angeles, Hollywood, Pasadena, Pasa-dena, Santa Monica, and at other GLEN TURNER ILECTURER FOR HAFEN-DALLIN' CLUB EACH TUESDAY Glen Turner, art teacher at the high school, has been conducting some very excellent tours each Tuesday at 4:15 under the sponsorship spon-sorship of the Hafen-Dallin club. At the last tour on Tuesday, Mrs. Rasmussen, artist of Salt Lake City, an authority on Modern Mo-dern Art, was guest speaker, at which time fifty ladies attended. O. N. O. BIRTHDAY CLUB ENTERTAINED Mrs. Willard Ostlund was hostess hos-tess to members of the O. N. O. Birthday club in honor of her mother, Mrs. Amanda Clist of Provo, Wednesday at her home. Pink and white carnations and roses were used as -centerpieces for the small tables from which luncheon was served. Later in the evening 500 was played with high score prize being be-ing won by Mrs. Jack Bush, second sec-ond prize was won by Mrs. Harold Olsen, and Mrs. E. G. Durnell won the consolation. Guests were Mrs. J. C. Shoney, Mrs. Melba Shoney, Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Higgins, Mrs. Bert Sulli- points of interest on the coast. Mr. Johnson is a graduate of the Springville high school and was a student at Brigham Young university. univer-sity. Mrs. Johnson is a graduate of East high school in Salt Lake City and has been employed as secretary for the past two years at Wright Planing Mill. ' Parties are being planned in honor of the young couple to take place in the near future. The young couple plan to make their home in Provo. VERA WHEELER ZOBELL FETED AT PARTY In honor of Mrs. Vera Wheeler Zobell, a recent bride, members of the Old Fourth Ward Double Trio entertained in her honor at a delightfully arranged shower Thursday night at the home of Verona Condie. An interesting program included includ-ed two violin solos by Aileen Condie, Con-die, two vocal solos by Evelyn Boyer, and two readings by Cecelia Ce-celia Maycock. A delicious luncheon was served serv-ed according to a spring decorative decora-tive theme, with spring flowers arranged in profusion in the entertaining en-tertaining room. Members of the double trio were Aileen Condie, Berniece Palfreyman, Martha Bird, Louise Patrick, Beth Miller, lone Averett, Aver-ett, the guest of honor, and the hostess. |
