Show NUMBERING OF STREETS COMPLETED During this week the city will have completed the erection of street signs throughout the city. The street markers are attractive white, stands and the numbers are black on a white background. As a further project in line with street marking, the city is asking all its citizens to number their homes properly. There is now a city ordinance to the effect that all homes shall be numbered under un-der the supervision of the city engineer, en-gineer, and failure to comply with this ordinance will render one liable to fine and imprisonment. J The correct numbering of all residences is of especial impor-' tance to the post office. It is con- sidered so important, in fact, that' at a recent inspection of Springville Spring-ville by post office inspectors this was found to be the city's greatest defect. Many house numbers were found to be painted over so that they were not easily discernible from the sidewalk; many have been removed or otherwise mutilated, mu-tilated, and a considerable number num-ber of homes have never had a number. The matter of house numbers num-bers is so important to the post office department that the latter has been authorized to discontinue the delivery of mail to those residences resi-dences ,which do pot willingly and promptly compy with "this requirement re-quirement j' ',. . The city aridj the post office are asking everyone to cooperate one hundred per cent in this campaign to bring the: numbering of the homes up to he standard of the new street signs and the many civic and other - advantages that have been gained in Springville. It is satisfactory in cases where house numbers have only been painted over to repaint them a bright, contrasting, prominent color. In all other cases, however, how-ever, where numbers are nonexistent non-existent or in other ways unserviceable, unser-viceable, it will be necessary for residents to apply to the city recorder re-corder for their correct number and then purchase one for a very nominal cost. It is expected that all house numbers needing correction cor-rection will be completed during the two weeks remaining in April. |
