Show 7 . I Cora Thorn Bird Concert Tuesday ART BENEFIT TO BE SPONSORED BY CLUB WOMEN j Varied Program To j Be Given By j Concert Singer ! Cora Thorn Bird, concert singer sing-er and radio artist, who has just arrived in Springville, will be presented in a concert Tuesday, April 23, by the Hafen-Dallin Art club and the Federated clubs of Springville, in what is expected to be a fine musical program. Her appearance will bring to Springville one of the finest musical mu-sical treats this community has ! ever enjoyed and one which will I compare favorably with any of the I concert numbers of lyceum courses. This will be Mrs. Bird's first concert in her native town, but by no means the first in her varied var-ied and successful career as a concert singer and radio artist. She is generously turning the proceeds pro-ceeds over to the art project. Her program will be varied and of the highest class, ranging from the classical, for which she has won an enviable reputation in Los Angeles and Hollywood, to the more popular numbers, which have also endeared her to the people of this community. She will be assisted by Bechi Almond, a pianist whose ability in her line is second to none in the state. Besides accompanying Mrs. Bird, she will play several numbers num-bers to add variety and interest to the program. The winner of two major vocal contests conducted by the National Nation-al Federation of Music clubs', she appeared as soloist with the Los Angeles Shrine band in the Philharmonic Phil-harmonic auditorium, and also with the Women's Lyric club. For three years she was soloist in the English Lutheran church in Los Angeles. She was prima donna with the Shrine Light Opera Co., and sang the title role in "Rose Marie" in the Adhor Opera of the Air. One season she was soloist at Grauman's Chinese theatre and doubled for the singing voice of Lionel Barrymore's leading lady in the stage production of "Laugh, Clown, Laugh." Besides being soloist on the "Church of the Air" program for the. Columbia Broadcasting system, sys-tem, she has acted as statf artist of the leading radio stations of Los Angeles, and has sung in most of the recent major musical pictures produced by Metro-Gold-wyn-Mayer. She has- won distinction in California Cali-fornia for the sweetness and smoothness of her voice, and her concerts have received lavish praise. Tickets for the benefit concert may be bought from members of the Hafen-Dallin Art club or from members of the Federated clubs of Springville. |
