Show Snrinsville Clubs Sponsor Civic and Cultural Project. 1 ' " Cultural Arts and Ladies Literary Clubs Join Federated Ranks This Year HOSTESSES TO STATE CLUB LADIES AT THIRTIETH ANNIVERSARY OF FIRST DISTRICT AND ART TEA Springville clubs have always taken an active part in Federated club work in the state and have always actively supported worthy projects. Two more clubs have joined the ranks of Federated club women of Springville Spring-ville during the past few weeks the newly orgamed Cultural Arts club and the Ladies Literary club, well known for its interest in cultural studies Written by four ladies, each a member of the respective club she writes about brief histories of their clubs have been compiled and notations made of worthwhile projects which have been completed under the sponsorship of the ClUb-The four clubs discussed are the four major Springville Women's clubs which have during the past years contributed greatly to the success of Spnng-villp Spnng-villp as a community of culture and refinement. . 4 years scholarships were given to high school boys and girls that were not able to go on to the high school without a little assistance, as-sistance, as well as prizes for dramatics. dra-matics. The high school band received re-ceived a generous contribution from the club to assist them in buying their uniforms. Art has always, however, been considered the main project, and the club contributes each year to the general fund. On holiday occasions when parades par-ades have been staged as part of the celebration, Alpha Beta club has always planned and entered a fine float-In float-In connection with the city committee, a committee representing repre-senting the club has worked on planting and home beautifying. This project is under way at the present time. During the depression and at war time, the club economized by making their year books and in other ways, thereby lending assistance as-sistance to those in need. Alpha Beta as one of the Federated Fed-erated clubs of Springville desires to sponsor all projects which are for the civic betterment of Springville. Alpha Beta Club I$y Mrs. Guy Mendcnlinll o Alpha Beta club was organized February 7, 1912, and federated the same year. The first officers were: President, Mrs. N. K. Nielsen; Niel-sen; vice-president, Mrs. G. W. Mendenhall; secretary, Mrs. E. Hardman; treasurer, Mrs. S. C. Whittaker, with Mrs. J. S. Groes-beck, Groes-beck, Mrs. A. C. Bird and Mrs. H. B. Alleman comprising the executive committee. Club motto is, "Climb though the rocks be rugged." The club is a literary organization, organi-zation, but it is also just what the word Alpha Beta implies everything every-thing from A to Z that is for the advancement or betterment of the community. The club has been a source of development in a cultural cul-tural way, and art, music, and literature have been foremost on the programs. At the present time, the members are interested in international relations, and have enjoyed some excellent programs. pro-grams. Along the dramatic line, it might be said that for several years a play was produced at Thanksgiving time. Many projects have received as- cintnnn frnm Alnha Beta Club. and the club has worked with i Home Culture and Mothers' Study in putting over a playground project pro-ject and in supplying milk for undernourished school children for a number of years. A set of books consisting of 62 volumes were presented to the library by donating 12 books each year until the set was complete. Also contributions were made to a college loan fund, and for many |
