Approximately 200 ladies called during the afternoon and were received re-ceived by Mrs. Jacob Coleman, provo- Mrs. Hugh Caldwell, Caldwell Cald-well Idaho; Mrs. Deal, Pocatello, Idaho- Mrs. Waters, Price; Mrs. Algie Ballif, Provo; Mrs. Lela Xelson, Logan, wives of the district dis-trict officers; and by Mrs. H. T. Reynolds of this city, general chairman, Mrs. A. O. Thorn, wife of the mayor, Mrs. Sterling Ercan-brack Ercan-brack and Mrs. Wilmur Allan of Provo, who were other members of the reception committee. The long table was covered with a beautiful hand-made cutwork cloth that was made by nuns in a convent in China, and was centered center-ed with a beautiful floral piece of lillies, red gladiolus, and blue delphinium. Tall" blue tapers in crystal candelabra were at either end. Daughters of the Kiwanians, attired at-tired in white formals and with red and blue flowers in their hair, served. The girls were as follows: Elaine Brockbank, Helen Chris-tensen, Chris-tensen, Pauline Clyde, Illah Clyde, Dama Grant, Nana Lee Reynolds, Jane Strong, Mary Louise Win-gate, Win-gate, Gertrude Ann Welch, all of Springville; Genevieve Coleman, Ruth Ercanbrack, Algean Ballif, and Elaine Brown of Provo, and Hazel Anderson of Terre Haute, Indiana. Serving was under the direction direc-tion of Mrs. Ruby Christensen, Mrs. R. C. Petty, Mrs. Ray Richards, Rich-ards, Mrs. Paul Haymond, Mrs. Dean Stewart, and Mrs. Dallas Holley. String music: was played during the afternoon by Eileen Condie on the violin, accompanied by Barbara Gudmundsen at the piano. Vocal numbers interspersed the string music as follows: Two vocal solos. MAPLETON CHOIR MEMBERS WERE ENTERTAINED Wednesday night at a canyon party held at the Whiting Park up Maple canyon. The program for the evening included in-cluded a supper, bonfire program, sports, and other canyon entertainment. enter-tainment. Dick Dudley acted as master of ceremonies, and the choir leader, Elmo Jensen, gave a short talk on his appreciation of the work of the choir done during the past year. A KOLOB STAKE CANYON PARTY WAS HELD FRIDAY night at the M. I. A. cabin at Kelly's Grove. The party was for stake and ward officers and special spe-cial interest group leaders. The evening's program included picnic, music, dancing, sports, and special program numbers. The program pro-gram features were given by Mrs. Rhea Straw, Mrs. Alberta Hoover, Dollie Smith, and Marjorie C. Miner. Mrs. Margaret Miner was in charge. Approximately thirty stake and ward officers attended the affair. MRS. HUNTINGTON WILL GIVE A BOOK REVIEW Tuesday afternoon, August 12, for members of the First ward Relief society. The book which she will review is "Mrs. Miniver," by Jan Stru-ther, Stru-ther, and should prove very interesting. inter-esting. All Relief society members are invited to be present. FOURTH WARD RELIEF SOCIETY WILL MEET Tuesday, .August 19, at their regular reg-ular summer monthly meeting. The meeting will be under the direction of the literary commit-1 tee, and all members of the ward Relief society are invited to be present. . Last year, the railroads of the United States expended more than $61,300,000 for gasoline and fuel oil. Mrs. Lela Packard; two vocal duets, Mrs. Helen Thorpe and Mrs. Inez Bird; two trios, Mrs. Helen Thorpe, Mrs. Inez Bird, and Mrs. Gerry Simmons; two vocal duets, Annie and Lula Fox. Accordion selections and piano solos were also played by Louise Clyde. Mrs. Mary Bird accompanied the vocalists vocal-ists on the piano. Mrs. Mae Huntington and Miss Floss Harmer gave a history of the Springville art exhibit and explained ex-plained pictures in the permanent collection as a highlight of the afternoon's af-ternoon's entertainment. Committee chairmen who arranged ar-ranged the affair were Mrs. Merle Sargent, housing; Mrs. D. B. Welch, table; Mrs. W. W. Brock-bank, Brock-bank, decorations; Mrs. C. E. Eggertsen, Eg-gertsen, programs; Mrs. W. W. Clyde, refreshments; and Mrs. J. W. Grant, dishes. All of the ladies of the Springville Spring-ville Kiwanis club acted on one of the committees in making arrangements ar-rangements for the tea. |
