Bowen Will Head Utah-Idaho Kiwanians During 1942 Utah Lake Boating Party Tuesday Night Concludes Annual Three-Day Convention Held This Year at Provo At the concluding session of the 22nd annual three-day convention of Utah-Idaho district of Ki-wanis Ki-wanis International, Willard S. Bowen, Pocatello public accountant, was elected e-overnor of the Utah- :Idaho district of the Kiwanis International In-ternational for 1942. Lieutenant - governors for the four divisions were named as follows: fol-lows: John E. Booth, mayor of Spanish Fork, first division; Ver-ner Ver-ner O. Hewlett of Salt Lake City, second division; Wilbur S. Hall of Twin Falls, Idaho, third division; and Larry Brainard of Payette, Idaho, fourth division. Convention events Tuesday included in-cluded a women's breakfast at the golf clubhouse, the Utah fellowship fellow-ship luncheon at the Women's gym at noon, the afternoon general gen-eral session, and a concluding boat trip on Utah Lake which started at 5:30. Starting off the afternoon general gen-eral session was a symposium on "How National Defense Affects Each of Us," led by Arthur Gaeth, Provo news commentator. Following the symposium, reports re-ports by the committee on resolutions resolu-tions and committee on credentials creden-tials were given, officers were elected, and the final report of the elections committee was given. Attended by 460 Kiwanians and wives, the governor's banquet Monday night in the Women's gym was perhaps the convention's highlight. high-light. Appearing in the role of speakers speak-ers were Governor Chase Clark of Idaho, Governor Herbert B. Maw of Utah, Hamilton G. Park of Salt Lake City, and J. Hudson Huf-fard Huf-fard of Bluefield, Va., Kiwanis International In-ternational trustee. Jacob Coleman Cole-man of Provo, district governor, was master of ceremonies, and Albert Al-bert J. Southwick of Salt Lake City was in charge of the musical program, which was very outstanding. out-standing. Following the banquet, the Kiwanians Ki-wanians and Kiwani-Anns attended attend-ed the governor's ball held in the new Joseph Smith building on the B. Y. U. upper campus. At Monday afternoon's general session at the Strand theatre, a forum on problems of Kiwanis was directed by Hugh N. Caldwell Cald-well of Caldwell, Idaho, immediate past district governor, and Marcus Mar-cus Austad of Ogden, past student body president at Weber college, delivered an address. From a recreational standpoint, the Idaho luncheon sponsored by the ladies of Idaho Monday noon was a high point of the confab, as was the Utah luncheon sponsored Tuesday noon by the Utah women. |
