Show CIVILIAN DEFENSE UNITS TO BE ORGANIZED To organize all citizens of Utah, men and women, into a compact group prepared for the civilian defense de-fense of the state and its property, registration of men and women in every county of the state has been called for by Governor Herbert B. Maw, chairman of the state council coun-cil of defense. In a letter this week to all county commissioners, he asked Wednesday, September 17, 1941, to be set aside within counties for registration to be conducted by any civic, church, fraternal or military groups designated by the county council formed by the county coun-ty commissioners. The registration places will give all who care to assist in defense work a chance to signify their desire de-sire to cooperate and to select the type of work to which they would prefer being assigned if and when any emergency arises. Blanks for registration will be forwarded to all county commissions commis-sions this week. Cards, signed by Governor Maw, identifying individuals indivi-duals as members of the state defense de-fense forces, will be presented to the civilian army of men and women. wo-men. The registration does not imply im-ply any enlistment in military service. ser-vice. The entire week of September 14to 20 has been made state defense de-fense week by proclamation of the governor. In that time, he hopes to have local county defense councils coun-cils organized, the program of defense de-fense explained in churches, clubs, and civic groups. |
