Show S. A. Pianist ... liilillitll Claudio Arrau, talented South American, who will be heard in a piano recital at Provo tabernacle, tab-ernacle, March' 9. PIANIST TO BE HEARD AT PROVO TABERNACLE South America's greatest pianist, pia-nist, Claudio Arrau, will be heard Thursday, March 9, at 8:15 in the Provo Tabernacle. Mr. Arrau, who is a native of Chile, gave his first concert at the age of five, in Santiago. His talents tal-ents so impressed the Chilean government gov-ernment that it undertook to finance fi-nance his musical education, sending send-ing him to Europe to study. At the age of twenty he made his first appearance in this country with the Boston and Chicago Symphony Sym-phony orchestras. Immediately afterwards af-terwards he went to Switzerland where he competed in the International Interna-tional Congress of Pianists, winning win-ning first place. At the beginning of the war he came to the United States and made an appearance in Carnegie Hall where he thoroughly thrilled his audience. The Boston and Chicago Chi-cago Symphony engaged him and were so impressed that he was called back for a second appearance appear-ance during the same season. |
