Show Mapleton News The Republicans of Mapleton met at the home of James Lindsay Lind-say Monday nieht and the following follow-ing officers were selected: chairman, chair-man, James Lindsay; vice chairman chair-man Mrs. Clay Beesley; district committeemen, Reed Hales, Ermel Jensen and Gwen Allen; secretary, Clay Beesley; central committee, Mr. and' Mrs. John I. Holley; delegates dele-gates to County, John I. Holley and James Lindsay; delegate to State Committee, Clay Beesley. Mr. and Mrs. James Wiscombe entertained the members of their family Friday night at their home. Elder Jesse Allan, a nephew of Mrs. Wiscombe's entertained the group with films of his mission with the Indians. Among those present were Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Wiscombe, Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Wiscombe and family, Mr. and Mrs. Preston Hooper and family and Mrs. Pearl Holley. Refreshments Refresh-ments were served. The Mapleton Jaycon Wives have been quite busy this week making a quilt which will be auctioned at a dance to be given in the near future. Anyone desiring tickets may get them by contacting- any member of the JC Auxiliary club. One evening was spent at the home of Mary Bleggi piecing the quilt; another at the home of Norma Canto where the pieces were set together and the third evening- was spent at the home of Louise Schwartz where it was completed. A well attended Mapleton ward reunion was held in the Memorial Hall Saturday with Lyle Paulsen in charge. The following program was given: prayer, Ray Whiting-; piano solo, Billy Biggs; reading-, Helen Campbell; vocal duet, Mabel Paulsen and Bonnie Glviden; accompanied ac-companied by Boyd Hales; piano duet, Boyd Hales and Donald Bluth; reading, Iris Dibble; closing prayer Ralph Harmer. Refreshments were seived by rison and Nell Wiscombe. Amanda Aman-da Binlcs entertained with "Bits from My Scrap-Book". Mrs. Fern Crandall was hostess to the Seirra Bonita Club Thursday Thurs-day night at her home. The evening even-ing was spent in playing- "500" after which refreshments were served to twelve club members. The Camp Union DUP of Mapleton Maple-ton met at the home of Louise Nelson Monday night and were highly entertained by Emeline Bluth who gave a talk on "Mormons "Mor-mons In Mexico." Her mother, Mrs. Ray L. Pratt of Salt Lake City gave an account of some of her experiences in Mexico while her husband was president of the Mexican Mex-ican mission. A copy of the Book of Mormon which he had translated while on this mission was examined. examin-ed. Louise Nelson gave the history of her grandfather, Neliton G. Grijo, who was of Spanish descent I and came from Mexico.. ' I Assisting the hostess were Iris: Roundy and Thelma Degraw. ' i Mrs. Myrtle Bird has returned to her home after spending a month in Salt Lake City with her daughter, Mrs. L. A. Parcell. Mr. and Mrs. Larry Bird have been guests at her home for several days before leaving for the Northwest North-west where Larry is salesman for the Utah Tayloring Mills of Ogden. They have recently returned from a visit at the home of her par- j ents Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Car- j roll of Freemont, Ohio. While they ! were there a tea and dance was ' given at the Moose Lodge in honor of Mr. Carroll whose birthday oc-cured oc-cured on the 26th of December and also in honor of Larry and his wife. Approximately 300 guests and friends were present. Larry, who was a Captain in the Air Corps has been released from active ac-tive duty. the officers of the MIA, Relief Society and the Sunday School, to approximately 400 guests. The evening was concluded by a dance ' with music furnished by the Zee- man Orchestra of Payson. i A birthday dinner was given Sunday for Miss Wanda Holey of Salt Lake City at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. John I. Holley. Other members of the family fam-ily present besides those mentioned mention-ed were Mr. and Mrs. Mack Holley Hol-ley and family of . Spanish Fork and Mr. and Mrs. Alma Jensen of Mapleton. Camp Mapleton DUP were entertained en-tertained at the home of Martha Whiting Thursday afternoon. Mrs. Whiting- gave a history of her grandfather, Benjamin Blanchard. Louise Nelson gave the history of her grandfather, Neliton G. Trijo who was a Spaniard from Mexico. Mrs. Emeline Bluth gave a talk on "Mormons in Mexico." Her mother Mrs. R. L. Pratt of Salt Lake City was a special guest who related some of her experiences in Mexico. Her husband, Mr. Pratt was president of the Mexican mission mis-sion for approximately twenty-five years. A copy of the Book of Mormon Mor-mon which he had translated while on this mission was displayed at the meeting. A lesson on Mexico was given by Marva Whiting. ' Mrs. Viola Kawahig-ashi from Hawaii was also a guest speaker I and she displayed some beautiful I quilts and other articles from Hawaii. Ha-waii. She sang two Hawaiin songs. Assisting the hostess were Arlena Holley, Bessie Thorn and Ella Johnson. The officers and teachers of the Mapleton Relief Society enjoyed a supper and games in the ward church Monday night.
