Show Race Meet Ends Saturday; Feature Race at 5:15 - i Spring Acres' three-day Memorial Day race meet, hailed by horse-racing fans throughout the inter-mountain inter-mountain area as the opener of the Utah racing season, sea-son, will be fittingly climaxed on .Saturday afternoon when the Au Re voir handicap featuring the best of the meet's winners is run at approximately 5:15. Post time will again be 3:30 p.m., which will allow workmen and those attending attend-ing other sports events to make it to Spring Acres in time for the feature race. A complete list of entries in the day's meet Is not available, due to early press deadline this week, but among the horses expected to run in the farewell handicap are such spectacular runners as Howe's Step, Scot O'Grady, Katy Ann, Bernard J., Middle Win, Pay's Echo, and possibly the sensational favorite, High Kisses. Spectators at the races during the past week will need nothisg more than a tentative list of such mounts to bring them to the track early, prepared to witness the best races ever yet presented in this vicinity. Memorial Day brought one of the track's biggest crowds to see a great program, including the Memorial Day handicap, to the winner of which Miss Coleen Hut-chins, Hut-chins, our own "Miss Utah", who, by the way, is a sister of Mel Hutchins, famous BYU eager presented a beautiful gold cup. Specialty acts between races were well received, and the management manage-ment announces the Ruby Ring, famous contortionist direct from Las Vegas' Last Frontier, will appear ap-pear at Saturday's meet. This alone is well worth the price of admission, as those seeing Miss Ring's act in Las Vegas will agree. The meet this year has surpassed surpas-sed both in quantity and quality any of the preceding years, and the management wishes to take this opportunity to thank those who have helped to make it a success. Three track records were tied during the first day's races, indicating that some of the speediest speed-iest horses in the West were entered en-tered in the meet. The Memorial Day program was declared to be the finest ever presented at Spring Acres, and the public is cordially invited to come to the track on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. and enjoy a program equally fine. Visitors at the stables are also welcome at any time. Come and bring the family, and enjoy the king of all sports, thoroughbred horse racing. |
