Show Experienced Cast To Be Seen in Play "Where There's Smoke," June 7, 8 Scheduled as the season's final production, "Where There's Smoke," will be presented by the Springville Playhouse on Thursday and Friday eve- nings, June 7 and 8, at 8:15 p.m.,3 in the Fourth ward church. An invitation is extended to the general gen-eral public to attend. - Taking part - in the production are: Mrs. John A. Judd,. Mrs. Anna Lee Strong, Merlin Fox, Grant Clyde, Mrs. Serge Huff, Helen Johnson, Elaine Erickson, Mark Hoover, Jay Haymond, Iceland Ice-land Ford, Carol Friel, and Mrs. Howard Maycock. Playhouse Reviewed The Springville Playhouse began with the play, "Ideal Husband," directed by Mrs. Jessie Dalton, in June of 1948. Since that time the dramatic group has produced two 3-act plays and three one-act plays with a total of 62 people participating partici-pating in the presentations. The three-act comedy, "Where There's Smoke," has a cast of twelve people. Nearly all of the members of the cast are new to the Playhouse productions, but have had previous experience. Mrs. John A. Judd, experienced as a reader, has directed MIA plays and played major parts in such productions as, "The Great Divide," Di-vide," "Nothing But The Truth," "The Wrong Mr. Right" and others. She is a former member of the Dixie Dramatics and Operas. Mrs. John Strong (Anna Lee Walker) will be remembered for her excellent performance in, "A Stranger Passes" and "Shubert Alley." Grant Clyde,' well known to theatre audiences in Springville and Provo, created the settings for the BYU play, ."Seventh Heaven." He has acted as a student director; played the major role in "Three's A Family," in addition to roles in, "You Can't Take it With You;" "Barretts of Whimple Street," "The Bad Man" and "Family Portrait." Helen Johnson, member of the Thespians, played in, "The Miser," and 'The Saturday Evening Ghost.' Thespian Elaine Erickson has played roles in "Cinderella," "Tom Sawyer." Mark Hoover was a member also of "Tom Sawyer" cast. Jay Haymond, Hay-mond, who has been given a special spec-ial honor in Thespians, recently acted in, "The Bishop's Mantle." He will be remembered remem-bered for his fine work in "Abbies Irish Rose." Mrs. Serge Huff will be new to Springville audiences, but she has had experience in ward and stake productions in tWashington stake, Richmond, Va. Carol Friel, Leland Ford, Mrs. Howard Maycock are preparing excellent roles for the pleasure of theater lovers. The present production promises to equal the fine standards of past productions by the Playhouse staff, and all members and friends are promised an interesting evening eve-ning June 7 and 8 in the Fourth ward. |
