Show Fifty Years of Club Work Observed by Home Culture Ladies at Birthday Fete Starting in May, 1901, with a Kandful of energetic members concerned with the welfare and civic problems of Springville, the Home Culture Club Saturday observed The fiftieth year or its organization, with fitting exercises directed by the present membership. At the. conclusion of the program pro-gram to which all federated club members of Springville and a number of specially invited guests attended, the Home Culture members mem-bers cut a huge birthday cake made especially for the occasion. Mrs. Harold Christensen, first-vice-president of the state federation federa-tion clubs and a member of the Home Culture club did the cutting. The afternoon program was presented pre-sented in three parts proceeded by string music furnished by a string ensemble composed of Mrs. Olea Sargent, Mrs. Eileen Bird, Elaine Jessie, Dorothy Clark, Martha Jones, Virginia Miner, Barbara Merritt, Sally Seal, Mrs. Juan Whiting. Mrs. John Judd wrote the play-lett play-lett entitled, "Fabric of Freedom," Free-dom," and in this, every member of the club took part in appropriate approp-riate costume. Mrs. Judd read and organ music was given by Mrs. Mary Bird, as the candles of music, mu-sic, beauty, service, understanding, love, humility, wisdom and truth are lighted by the various club members. Miss Sylvia Scovil rendered ren-dered a dance solo portraying "Folly." The second scene depicted a club meeting taken from the minute min-ute books of 1912, in which such civic problems as removing watering wat-ering troughs from city streets were discussed as well as the proposition pro-position of keeping fences in good repair and the gates closed so that cattle would not destroy gardens. gar-dens. Mary Jane Bird gave piano selections during the second scene. During the third and final part of the program, Mrs. Jessie Condie, Con-die, Club president, welcomed the ladies present and paid tribute to two charter members, Miss Sophia Packard and Mrs. Anna Burns and also Mrs. M. W. Bird, who joined the club just one year after its organization and is still a member. There were three honorary mem- bers present, Mrs. H. M. Dougall, Mrs. B. M. Mendenhall and Mrs. Anna Burns. During the afternoon also a vocal vo-cal duet was rendered by Glida Ann Packard and Ann Merie Fry, accompanied by Mrs. Mary Bird & Mrs. Catherine Wills entertained with vocal numbers, accompanied by Mrs. Bird. To climax the affair, Mrs. I. R. Morrison, president of the state federation, presented the club with the 50-year certificate from the national president. Mrs. Emily Anderson read the roll and each club member responded respon-ded by standing. The club collect was read by Mrs. Harold Christensen. Christen-sen. A pretty centerpiece of tulips & yellow roses combined with candles can-dles in crystal holders made a beautiful centerpiece for the serving serv-ing table. Pouring were, Mrs. B. M. Mendenhall, Men-denhall, Mrs. M. W. Bird, Mrs Morrison and Mrs R. Lomax of Nephi, district president. In the receiving line were Mrs. Condie, club president and other officers including, Mrs. Lomax, Mrs. Morrison, Mrs. Alma Miner, Mrs. Emily Anderson and Mrs. Warren Beadall, chairman of the anniversary entertainment. Mrs. Phoebe Packard and Mrs. A. M. Lyall assisted in receiving and directing the guests number ing about 140 who were in attendance attend-ance at the delightful and apprc-propriate apprc-propriate anniversary party. |
