If the administration still considers con-siders that General MacArthur is bound to silence even though relieved re-lieved of command, it is to be hoped that as a great American he can be encouraged to resign, if necessary, in order to be com pletely free to give the country the benefit of his unique wisdom and experience, based on his genius gen-ius as a military commander and growing out of his many years of service in the Orient. s:Now that he has been relieved of his military command as well as his responsibilities in Japan, he should be invited to return to the United States and Washington as quickly as possible and permitted to give Congress and the American people the benefit of his knowledge know-ledge and experience as they seek 1 'Senator Bennett ( Comments On MacArthur Release The President's decision to relieve re-lieve General MacArthur of his responsibility in Japan and Korea after his outstanding service leaves many open questions to which the American people are entitled to an answer. In the first place, the popular impression is that General Mac-Arthur Mac-Arthur was removed as a result of a disagreement over the objectives ob-jectives in Korea. By his removal it seems to me the Administration owes the American people a complete com-plete and clear-cut definition of its own objectives and the policies it proposes to follow to achieve them. After his long and successful career in the Far East, many Americans have come to regard General MacArthur as our most competent authority on questions affecting, our destiny in Asia. |
