Show City Lets Landscape, Water Pipe Bids; Appointments Made, New Siren Ordered Memoricr Port to Be Completed; Two Sirens Planned for Air Raids S - the upright type which will throw the sound with equal volume in all directions. Councilman Boyer was appointed to investigate the various var-ious types of sirens and to have a new one installed as soon as possible. The old siren will be set up in another part of the city so that the two may be sounded simultaneously simul-taneously if needed for an air raid or other alarm. Recreation Budget A recreation budget for the summer sum-mer was also approved during the council meeting apportioned as follows: Tennis, $25; Civic Orchestra, Orches-tra, $200; Baseball, $150; Softball, Soft-ball, $200 $25 for the girls and $100 for the boys and $75 for men; Teenage Canteen, $280; playground, play-ground, $675; Little Theater, $50; baseball, $100; horseshoe, $25; miscellaneous, $50. George Pehr-son, Pehr-son, director, $300. At the meeting of the council, members went on record as being "opposed to playing ball on Sunday. Kelly's Grove Ixts A survey of lots at Kelly's Grove has been made by the city and several of the lots are now being offered for sale to the public. Edward Ed-ward Boyer is in charge of this phase of city affairs. New Street A proposition for a new street from Kolob Circle to Fourth East, (Continued on Page 2) The City plans to proceed on the landscaping of Memorial Park east of the Grant School, with awarding of a contract for the landscaping having been let to Landscape Construction Con-struction and Supply Co., 1765 Hillcrest Ave., Salt Lake City which will plant 63 trees of different dif-ferent variety. The bid was for $294.00 and delivery is to be made by April 20. There were other bids on the landscaping, but taking into consideration con-sideration the size-of the stock and its adaptibility to park planting plant-ing as offered by the Salt Lake company, their bid was accepted, city officials stated. A bid for installation of 18 and 12 inch culinary water pipe from the power plant to Burt Springs in Hobble Creek canyon, was let to Springville contractors, Martin-dale Martin-dale and Blackett, who submitted the low bid of $7191.95. Ten bids were submitted for the job ranging rang-ing from the low bid by the local company to near $19,000 by an outside firm. Siren Inadequate Councilman Edward Boyer reported re-ported to the council that the fire siren was inadequate to give the alarm over this area in case of an air raid. It was therefore decided decid-ed at the meeting, that the present siren should be replaced with a more modern and more powerful signal.
