Show i, Air Raid Signal Hot Adequate, Fire Chief Reports The air raid warning test Monday Mon-day in Springville was only partially par-tially successful reports Fire Chief Ivan Nielson, who personally checked the various sections of town afterward, to determine if the signal had been heard. In the central part of town everyone heard it and 'cooperated 'cooper-ated very well, but on the outskirts out-skirts of the city people in the houses did not hear it unless they were listening closely. Chief Nielson checked with residents resi-dents in the vicinity of Eighth East and Second North who reported re-ported that the all clear signal especially es-pecially was very poor when heard at all. It seems that the extremely high pitch of the three one minute min-ute blasts did not carry as well as the undulating warning siren. In Brookside the reception was fairly good ,but again a difference was noted in the volume of the two signals. At 13th East on the hill, people heard the entire signal clearly, but at the fish hatchery north of Springville, no one heard even the warning siren, except one or two people who were outside out-side and listening intently. The all clear could not be heard at all. Chief Nielson reports that the siren was used at its maximum volume, and that work was done on it ahead of time in an effort to increase the sound, but it seems to be inadequate. Efforts will be made to acquire improved facilities if possible, so that all the people may be warned in case of attack. |
