Show Business Men Set Holidays For Year; Oppose New Taxes Considerable opposition to the so-called, so-called, "Franchise tax" as set forth in a new city ordinance passed by the former city council in regard to license fees for local business, was voiced at a meeting of business men called by the Chamber of Commerce Tuesday evening. Approximately 64 interested inter-ested representatives were in attendance. at-tendance. Following a thorough discussion of the matter, it was decided that the business men should get together to-gether and propose a substitute ordinance and submit it to the city council for their consideration Wm. Paul Haymond was appointed chairman of the retail merchants committee of the Chamber and a complete schedule of holidays, in which business houses will be closed, was worked out. The holidays include: Washington's Washing-ton's birthday, Wednesday, February Feb-ruary 22; Memorial Day, Tuesday, May 30; Fourth of July, Tuesday, July 4; Pioneer Day, Monday, July 24; Labor Day, Monday Sept. 4; Armistice Day, Sat. Nov 11; Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, November Nov-ember 23; Christmas, Monday, December 25; New Year's Day, Monday, January 1. |
