Show Former Springville Girl Turns Down Movie Contract; Puzzles Producers A reverse decision by a former ( Springville girl last week brought her more publicity than most individuals in-dividuals expect in a lifetime. When Mrs. Grace Johnson, wife of Burton Johnson of Los Angeles, Calif, flatly turned down a $500-dollar $500-dollar a week contract offered by a Hollywood studio to act in a comedy role as well as a western picture, producers were pust as fflatly amazed. This was certainly the exception rather than the rule in movie land. But Mrs. Johnson, who is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Wright also former residents of Springville, had the jump on many girls who would give millions for such a chance. She had recently been technical advisor for Lucille Ball's movie, "The Fuller Brush really have to work. As a result she told producers in short that she preferred her present job of cosmetic salesman for the Fuller Company at $3 per hour. And so Mrs. Johnson made newspaper headlines as well as special mention men-tion by Lowell Thomas on his Monday evening broadcast. Mrs. Johnson married Burton Johnson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Johnson . of Springville, whom she met while he was employed em-ployed as a carpenter and she as a book-keeper in her father's planing plan-ing mill here. They lived in Provo two years and in Springville- two years before going to California. They have an 8-year old son, Billy. Mrs. Johnson told movie producers, pro-ducers, according to report from Hollywood that she was happily married and expected to stay that way and if she took a movie contract, con-tract, she would be making 100 times the amount of her husband and they would probably end up being miserable. Commenting upon the story, Wayne Johnson, father-in-law of this city said, they called their daughter-in-law and son upon hearing of the offer and was assured as-sured that she didn't intend to accept ac-cept it. For six years after moving to California, the couple lived in a trailor house. They now have a nice little home and are enjoying it and from all reports they will continue to do so living a normal life, while Mrs. Johnson continues her part time work going as she pleases but getting home each evening to greet' her husband as he comes from work and her son Billy when he comes from school. |
