All invitations invita-tions to prospective exhibitors were stamped with a special centennial cen-tennial stamp and because of this, many artists have signified their intention of sending special pictures pic-tures for this year's show, Mrs. Mae Huntington of the art committee, com-mittee, said today. March 20 Deadlina In response to some 250 invitations invita-tions to outstanding artists throughout the country, the high school has already received many fine canvasses with scores of others to arrive before the March 20 deadline. A note of interest comes with announcement that many new artists ar-tists will be seen in the 1950 show as a result of contacts with visitors, visi-tors, art critics and others who have shown a special interest in the Springville art project. There will be a large representation from the California art colonies as well as exhibiting artists from practically practi-cally every other section of the country. Numbered among the new names are: Dan Lutz, Henrietta Shore, Ray P. Radcliffe, Howard E. Smith, Peter W. Bios, James A. Holden all of California; Maurice Mau-rice Kish of New York. Phillips C. Curtis, Arizona, Stanford Stevens of Arizona, Helen Van Cleve. California, Cal-ifornia, George Beliner, New York. As usual, Utah artists will also (Continued on Page Two) Centennial Theme To Feature 1950 Art Exhibit (Continued from Page One) be well represented in this years show with pictures already received re-ceived from several and many others yet to come in. As evidence of continued interest inter-est in the Springville art exhibits, are the many former exhibitors who have sent canvasses. Visitors may look forward to seeing again this year at least three paintings from the brush of Wm. R. Leigh. Gordon Grant of New York will be represented again as will Gustave Weigand of New York, Millard Sheets of California, Cali-fornia, Walter E. Braun of Pennsylvania, Penn-sylvania, Gerald Curtis Delano of Denver, Colo., Emil J. Kosa of Calif., John Taylor, Arms, N. Y., John E. Costigan, N. Y Ila McAfee, Mc-Afee, N. M.. Morris Henry Hobbs, New Orleans, Waldo Peirce, Maine, Emil P. Gruppe, Marie Hull, Theodore Theo-dore Wassmer, Freemont F. Ellis and many others. Dedrick Stuber of Los Angeles, Calif., who has never yet had a picture returned, is again exhibiting, exhibit-ing, bringing the practical assurance assur-ance that another Stuber will find a permanent resting place in some Springville or nearby home. J. H. Sharp, 85, whose pictures were missed from the gaallery for several years will be represented again in this centennial exhibit. Art Galleries The art galleries of the country have also been generous in their response to invitations to exhibit in this year's show, Mrs. Huntington Hunting-ton said, and as a result fourteen outstanding canvasses have been received from the Downtown Galleries Gal-leries of New York as well as a similarly large number from the Vose Gallery, Boston; the McBeth, New York and the Krausharr of New York. The works of such modernistic painters as Wesley Lea, Nile Spencer, Spen-cer, George L. K. Morris, Lewis Guglimi, Karl Zerbe and Bernard Karfoil arrived in the Downtown Galleries collection and while this type of art is not new in Springville Spring-ville Exhibits, it will attract interest in-terest of many artists and critics. Mrs. Huntington said today that the response has been so great this year that to accomodate the large number of paintings which are expected ex-pected to hang in this year's show, the school's 'permanent collection as well as the Steed Memorial collection col-lection will have to be removed during the April art month. |
