Show SITE FOUND FOR WINTERSPORTS Ten Provo, Springville and Spanish Span-ish Fork outdoor lovers headed by George C. Larson, Uinta national na-tional forest supervisor, returned from the right fork of Hobble Creek Saturday night with 'blisters 'blist-ers and aching feet, but with an enthusiastic outlook for possibilities possibili-ties of developing a winter sports site at Smith's Flat, about 7 miles from here. The party left their cars at the juncture ofthc right alid 'eft forks of Hobble Creek canyon and advanced on snow shoes and skis five miles on up to Smith's Flat. Everyone present agreed that the many slopes there could be developed into a fine winter sports site. Mr. Larson reported. The snow depth was two and one-half feet, an ample depth for skiing, he said. Recommendations of the group will be made to Alf Engen. world famous ski jumper and head of the Uinta forest winter sports development devel-opment division. Mr. Engen will be here April 1 to inspect the site. accordi:ig to Mr. Larson. Provided Air. Engen favors the Hotble Creek site, the forest service serv-ice will clear the oak brush and prepare the slopes for skiing, Mr. Larson stated. Cooperation with the county in keeping the road open will be sought, he said. j |
