Show SOCIETY N&VS A number of friends pleasantly surprised Mr. and Mrs. A. O. Thorn at their home Saturday night, the occasion being their thirtieth wedding wed-ding anniversary. The rooms were attractive with table centerpieces of roses and carnations. After a delightful time spent with music and social chat, a delicious luncheon lunch-eon was served to the following: Mr- and Mrs. Ed Williams, Mr,, and Mrs. Thomas Roach, Mr. and Mrs. Ike Briggs of Spanish Fork, Mr. and Mrs. Ted Martindale of Mapleton, Mr. and Mrs. A. Y. Wheeler, Mr. and Mrs. John Whiting, Whit-ing, Mr. and Mrs. A. G. Thorn, Mr. and Mrs. Ted Payne, Mrs. Maud Curtis, Mrs. Hattie Black-ett Black-ett and Mis. J. W. Whiting. Dr. and Mrs. L. E. Otteson had as their week end guest Mrs. Melba Hayes, who will soon return to her home in New York after an extended visit with relatives d.t Mapleton and Provo. Members of the Home Culture club will meet with Mrs. Harold Christensen at 3 o'clock Friday. All members are asked to be present. pres-ent. Announcement is made of the manage of Kate Twidell Payne to Glenn Dean Lasson of Fairview which took place Saturday, Feb. 10, at Provo. Three tables of bridge featured the La Conda club party Thursday afternoon, at the home of Mrs. Lowry Anderson. Mrs. Claude Cardell of Provo won high score favor. Others in attendance were Mrs. Bliss Childs, Mrs. T. L. Cal-lister, Cal-lister, Mrs. Glenn Neill, Mrs. Paul Thorn of Springville, Mrs. Ruel S. Jacobsen, Mrs. Royal Chamberlain, Chamber-lain, Mrs. Percy Anderson and Mrs. Ted Haymond of Provo. Dr. and Mrs. M. D. Bringhurst and Mr. and Mrs. Richard Thorn of Salt Lake visited Sunday with relatives and friends here. Children of the Fourth ward Primary were delightfully entertained enter-tained with a program of games and dancing Saturday afternoon at the Third ward amusement hall. Refreshments were served to a large group under the direction of the Primary officers and teachers. Among the Springville people who attended the Katherine Cornell Cor-nell performances in Salt Lake Saturday were: Mrs. Mae Huntington, Hunt-ington, Mrs. Lucille Stowell, Miss Naomi Broadbent, Mrs. Leona Cumminps, Mrs. E. E. Knudsen, Mrs. Rhea Straw, Mrs. Milenda Sumsion, Mrs. Elizabeth Salisbury, Miss Dona Salisbury, Miss Norma Harrison and Miss Coba Caffell. A splendid program under the direction of President Cleonda Miner, featured the guest night of the legion auxiliary Monday. Mrs. Mae Huntington reviewed the book. "The Soft Spot;" the auxiliary auxil-iary chorus gave patriotic selections; selec-tions; Elmo Coffman, vocal solo; Mrs. Mary Witney, piano selections; selec-tions; Vern Davis. Claudia Billings, Bill-ings, Clcon Fox and lone Averett, instrumental music. A vote of thanks was extended to Dr. and Mrs. Frederick Dunn for their j contribution toward the piano for I the hall. In attendance were 68 auxiliary members and guests. A dainty lunch concluded the pro gram served by hostesses Afton Clark, Melba Pennington, Carrie Tripp, Bell Sumsion, Hilda Grant and Delia Clark. Prominent among the nicely arranged ar-ranged and successful socials of the week was the wedding dinner given by Mr. and Mrs. G. W. Friel, a,t their home Tuesday night for their daughter and her husband, hus-band, Mr. and Mrs. Boyd Rasmus-sen. Rasmus-sen. Fifty guests were seated at one long table in the spacious amusement hall. A gorgeous basket of rose formation, in colors of pink, green and gold and filled with wedding cake, formed an attractive, at-tractive, table centerpice. Palms, ferns and baskets of roses and snapdragons added to the beauty of the entertaining rooms. During the dinner, which was served at S o'clock, Mrs. J. O. Reynolds delightfully de-lightfully entertained with several clever toasts and readings; Roe McCurdy and Roy McKenzie, gave instrumental music and Boyd Ras-mussen, Ras-mussen, the bridegroom, M. W. Bird, Dr. Frederick Dunn, Mrs. G. S. Wood, A. O. Rasmussen of Richfield and Ralph Snelson, gave toasts. Dancing was enjoyed by all at the close of the dinner, and later the guests played progressive progress-ive bridge and were entertained with vocal selections by Mrs. Boyd Rasmussen and her brother Lamar Friel. Numerous and beautiful wedding gifts were presented the newly married couple who are now at home in the Elizabeth apartments, at Provo. Mrs. Faye Cranmcr was hostess host-ess to her bridge club last Thursday Thurs-day night. A dainty lunch was enjoyed at the close of the games at which Mrs. Louise Whiting and Mrs. Ann Johnson won prizes. Others in attendance were Mrs. Leona Allan, Mrs. Olive Miller, Mrs. Rose Roylance, Mrs. Floss Cates and Mrs. Josephine Brin-ton. Brin-ton. Mrs. E. E. Knudsen was in Eureka Eu-reka Tuesday evening to teach the M. I. A. "gold and green" dancers there the contest dance. She was accompanied by Madelyn Harrison, Harri-son, Eldcn Ashcraft and Margaret Pierce. Members of the Mothers Study club were pleasantly entertained Friday afternoon at the home of Mrs. Eliza Russell where Mrs. Eva Crandall reveiwed the oper "Tan-hausser." "Tan-hausser." Miss Helen Palfreyman gave vocal selections and Mrs. ; Crandall. Beth Mendenhall and Nelda Johnson instrumental music from the opera. Tasty refreshments refresh-ments were served by the hostess to fourteen members and three guests. Miss Dorothy Ochse and Miss Beth Taylor have returned from a ten days visit with Dave and Evelyn Eve-lyn Seeley, at Helper. Miss Hilda Clegg will be hostess host-ess to the N. I. P. club at her home Saturday night at 8 o'clock. The S. T. club meeting at the home of Mrs. Emma Rowland is i postponed until next Thursday evening, February 22. Alpha Beta club members will be guests of Mrs. Clair Johnson j at her home Friday afternoon. |
