Total payments to farmers to date are $2,087,695 on 16,610 contracts. The total number of cattle sold in Utah for the first week of July is 1149. None of the cattle so purchased and processed are to be sold, but all are being used for the help of needy families on relief lists throughout the country, and will not find their way to market. Hides from these animals go to the processor or packer in part payment pay-ment of processing charges. "How many cattle we may even-ually even-ually buy,, and how long buying will be kept up, we cannot say now," Mr. Peterson said. "It depends de-pends on conditions as they develop, de-velop, including the inclination of the individual farmer to sell." , There is no "goal" or "quota" in cattle purchases. Relief is planned plan-ned for the hard-pressed drouth areas and buying and processing for relief purposes is expected to continue only as long as the situation sit-uation warrants. |
