Heretofore demonstration methods meth-ods of pruning, at this time of the , year, have been given in various parts of the county, but in talking over with Prof. Coe, it was thought best that we spend the two days that he will be here pruning two or three demonstration orchards. The purpose of this work is to prune demonstration orchards, different ways, so that during the summer a fruit grower tour might be, conducted con-ducted to see the results of different differ-ent ways of pruning. During this warm spell of weather weath-er it is an opportune time for or-chardists or-chardists that haven't done their winter pruning to get this work done before spring is here so they will not be pruning fruit trees when they should be doing other farm work. WINTER PRUNING While Prof. Coe is here it is intended in-tended that one-half day will be spent at the state school in American Amer-ican Fork where plans will be made for an orchard on the state grounds which will be used as a demonstration demonstra-tion orchard for the county. It is best not to prune small fruits such as raspberries, gooseberries, goose-berries, etc., until the winter is pretty well over so that one is able to detect the plants that have been winter killed. These should be taken out and have just the healthy vigorous plants remain. It is much easier to do this a little later on in the spring. "SCORN NOT THE LOWLY TURNIP AND ONION" j 1. Do not bore your stomacli with a monotonous menu. 2. Do not scorn Hie lowly turnip and onion. 3. Cheaper meat cuts in stews are more nourishing than a diet of steaks and chops. 4. Eat all seasonable fresh vegetables vege-tables and fruits. 5. Drink at least one quart of milk every day. 6. Use your ingenuity by creating new dishes from old standbys. 7. Be cosmopolitan in your tastes; get acquainted with goulash, Irish stew, pig's knuckles, all leafy vegetables vege-tables and eat a salad every day. 8. Do not eat many sweets or take many sweet drinks. ! 9. Do not forget to drink several sev-eral glasses of water daily. 10. Do real cooking; last minute meals will not maintain good health. "Our diet should be freed from passing fancies of the "theory monger" by being boiled down to the essentials of a well balanced variety of wholesome foods." The above rules were laid down.
