Show SOCIETY NEVS i Mrs. E. 15. Knusen was hostess to the Alpha Beta club last Friday afternoon at her home. Miss Florence Flor-ence Robinson of the high school domestic art department gave a splendid paper on "Ideals of the American Home," discussing also the different types of homes in various countries. A general social time followed with luncheon served to sixteen members and two guests. The hostess was assisted in serving by Mrs. Gene Pierce and Miss Nettie Pierce. " After the First ward reunion Friday eveningi members of the cast in the one-act play presented during the program, and their partners, were entertained at a party at the home of Miss Inez Starr. Games and lunch were enjoyed, en-joyed, with the following present: Miss Hilda Clegg, Miss Lcona Clcgg, Leon Bird Lamar Weight, Roc Thorn, Max Dowell, Virginia CnMins, Blaine Thorpe, Edna Starr, Bessie Weight, Wilford Man-waring Man-waring and the hostess Miss Starr. Mrs. Gilbert Pulsipher, formerly Miss Lois Blanchard of this city ;md little daughter Ma rolyn, arrived ar-rived in Springville Friday from Denver to visit Mrs. Pulsipher's parents Mr. and Mrs. John Blanchard and other relatives and friends here and in Provo. The Maplcton ward Primary officers of-ficers and. teachers were hostesses to the ward and stake officers and teachers at the monthly social hour i Saturday afternoon. Games and other recreational work was given under the direction of Mrs. Bertha Flygare. Mrs. Gene Pierce was in charge of music practice and President Presi-dent Mae Crandall presided. Luncheon Lunch-eon was served in conclusion to a large crowd present. Social Twelve club members will be guests of Mrs. G. D. Kennedy at her home Friday evening February Feb-ruary 5. All are requested to be present at 8 o'clock. Dell Rowland has returned to his home here from Mexico, where he has been employed for more than a year. The First ward reunion, held in the ward amusement hall Thursday Thurs-day and Friday evening, was one of the mo:t successful socials of the season. Two or three hundred children under twelve years were entertained with a program, games and refreshments on Thursday, the Primary s.nd Sunday .school teachers teach-ers being in charge. Older people of the ward enjoyed a program and dancing followed by light refreshments re-freshments on Friday evening. Miss Hilda Clegg will be hostess to members of the M. I. P. club at her home next Saturday evening. All are asked to be present at S o'clock. The teachers at the Washington school entertained at a nicely arranged ar-ranged dinner party Thursday evening eve-ning at the home of Miss Helen Palfrey mali, complimentary to Mrs. L. J. Whitney, former school principal, prin-cipal, who was married recently. Music and social chat were enjoyed after dinner. A lovely gift was presented pre-sented to the guest of honor from the following teachers present: Miss Melba Sumsion, Miss Elda Hansen, Miss Bertha Bearnson, Miss Louise Foster, Miss Donna Salisbury and Miss Palfreyman. Lafayette Guy man, pioneer of 3 8-10. will be honor guest at the monthly meeting of the Daughters of Pioneers. Springville camp to be held Thursday afternoon, February 12 at the home of Mrs. Julia Packard. Pack-ard. The history of Mr. Guyman will be given by his daughter, Mrs. Clara Boyer. A large number from each of the wards of Springville attended the various programs given during Leadership week at Provo. Mrs. E. W. Brown returned Thursday from a week's visit with her daughter, Mrs. J. E. Hoyle. and family in Salt Lake. Members of the Ladies' Literary club will be guests of Mrs. Giant Crandall Saturday afternoon. Members Mem-bers are invited' to be present at 2:30 o'clock. Members of the Home Culture club were delightfully entertained Friday afternoon at the home of Mrs. W. L. Grooms. An interesting interest-ing talk on "Religion, Its Developing Develop-ing and Stabilizing Effect On the Civilization of the World." wa? given by the Rev. Harold L. Wilson; Wil-son; Miss Lucille Foster furnished two piano solos, and Mrs. J. F. Wingate a vocal solo. Luncheon was served by the hostess to fifteen fif-teen club members, and three guests. Erie Boorman entertained at a nicely arranged party at his home Friday evening for a number of little school friends. Luncheon and games were enjoyable features. Twelve boys and girls attended. Mr. and Mrs. E. E. Knudsen entertained en-tertained at dinner at their home, Sunday for Coach and Mrs. Clarence Clar-ence Knudsen of the Coalville high school, and Mrs. Amanda Knudsen Knud-sen of Provo. The Mothers' Study club will hold their next meeting Friday, February 12, at the home of Mrs. Percinda Oakley. An interesting letter was receiv-, receiv-, ed this week from Miss Esther Maycock who is attending school in Washington, D. C. Miss May-cock May-cock had the privilege last Tuesday Tues-day of attending the congressional ball held at the White House. A detailed description of the manner in which the guests were received and entertained during the evening eve-ning is especially interesting. Miss l Maycock with other students in at- tendance, was privileged to meet 1 President and Mrs. Hoover. A tour of the White House was among the j especially entertaining features of the evening. Miss Maycock is a j daughter of Mrs. Lena Maycock of 1 this city. |
