Show HIGH SCHOOL I NOTES I I 1 . j OrEHA PLANNED The Springville high school music department will present the opera "Bobby" on February 10, 11 and 12. The opera which was written by Claire Johnson, music supervisor of the school, was produced pro-duced in Beaver last year and met with unprecedented success. Mr. Johnson later sold the opera to the Willis Music company of New York ' City. The 20-picce orchestra which will play the musical score for the i opera shows marked' ability, ac-j ac-j cording to Mr. Johnson. The I chorus, comprising about 100 voices has been selected from the boys' and girls' gicc classes and from the chorus class. An especially pleasing feature of the production will be the dancing which is being directed by Tess Packard, Miss Naomi Broadbent has charge of the dramatics. The art department of the school, under the direction of Wayne Johnson, John-son, is constructing an entire new stage setting for one act of the opera. The scene is that of an up-to-date night club and promises to add considerably to the effectiveness effective-ness of the performance. The opera "Bobby" is the story of a country lad, impersonated by Jack Cherrington, who would rather rath-er spend his time reading and studying than working on the farm. Amid the ridicule of the peasants and the scolding of his lather Grant Palfreyman for his apparent idleness, Anne, his sweetheart sweet-heart Hazel Anderson and his mother Evelyn Miner alone understand un-derstand and sympathize with his ambitions. Their love goes with him when he becomes discouraged and leaves home swearing not to return " 'til my fortune in the world I have made." Other characters arc Ed, friend of Bob's. Max Senior; Gloria, Ger-aldine Ger-aldine Eggertsen; Dutchy, Rex Sutherland; peasants, John Nelson and Glen Brown; leader of the peasants. Tess Packard. The Wednesday, February 10th performance of the opera will be a matinee for school children ; the evening performances on the 11th and 12th will be for hi gh school students and for the public. WILL G1VK PKP KALLY The sophomore class will be in charge of a "pep" rally and program pro-gram at the Friday morning assembly as-sembly in preparation for the game with Payson Friday evening. A dance will be given in the gym after the fame, with Ralph Miglaccio orchestra furnishing the ( music. |
