Show STATE i'jrti CUTSORDERED Drastic Economy Suggested By Governor; 20 Per Cent Slice Needed. SALT LAKE CITY, Feb. 3 l'.R -Drastic and immediate economy was the watchword of every state department and institution today after Governor George H. Dorn issued is-sued a general letter to each that a 20 per cent cut in expenditures was an. imperative necessity. The governor's economy program was impelled by the startling and disturbing news that the revenue for the state general fund would be $1,000,000 less for th- present biennium than the last legislature estimated. Dern merely let each unit of the state government knew the actual situation and suggested that they decide on their own economies. While he did suggest the 20 per cent ..cut it would require just about that much slash for everybody every-body to meet the million dollar deficit he also made it clear that the executive department did not prooose to step in and arbitrarily dictate how and where these economics econ-omics would be effected. Drn asked for a report from each department and institution by Feb 20. The million. dollar difference between be-tween .the state legislature's estimate esti-mate and the actual state general fund income has been caused by the widespread tax delinquencies. This, in turn, has been partially caused by 20 bank failures in the state during the past 12 months which to a material extent, has tied up funds pending liquidation. i , |
