S LINER IS IKING j GOOD Till ' I p.100 is More Than Half Way I Across Atlantic Ocean; Constant Radio Communi- cation Is Maintained. , LONDON, July 30 (UP) The dirigible R-100, Britain's : empire pioneer, approached the coast of North America today after a rapid and un-. eventful voyage over the first half of a flight from England to Montreal. Maneuvering only when necessary neces-sary "tn find favorable weather and holding close to the 55th parallel most of the way after leaving Ireland, Ire-land, the big ship reported with regularity that she was progressing progres-sing satisfactorily at a speed something some-thing over 50 miles an hour up to -late this morning. Half Way Across ; At 5:55 a. m., E.S.T., the R-100 was reported less than 800 miles from the coast of Newfoundland, -with about half of her flight com-'pleted, com-'pleted, but still facing the always-present always-present danger of fogs and changing chang-ing winds off the coast. Squadron Leader R. S. Booth, in command of the ship, was in regular communication com-munication with the air ministry during the first part of the flight, and talked occasionally with ships which relayed messages. At 2 p. m. today, the air ministry 'assumed that the R-100 had passed :the 35th degree, which is more than half-way across the Atlantic, and requested the St. Hubert airport air-port authorities in Canada to handle the dirigible's perodic reports re-ports hereafter.
