Show SHOOTING IS ACCIDENTAL Eody of Heber Youth Returned Return-ed Home; Revolver Is Accidentally Discharged The body of Morris Hicken, 20, son of Mr. and Mrs. Alonzo Hicken of Heber City, who died of a wound inflicted when a revolve"!- he was handling was accidently discharged at Fairlield Friday at noon, wa3 returned to the family home Saturday Satur-day for funeral services and interment. Hickcm died within less than an hour after the accident occurred cn-route cn-route to a LcTii hospital, at a point about four miles east of Cedar Fort. Hicken, together with Virgil Muidccii, 19, a second cousin, also of Heber, was traveling on horse- , back to the I.ofgreen sheep sheai:- ! ing corrals, 25 miles west of Fair- I field. At noon Friday they stopped at Fairfield for lunh, and engaged in a little target practice. 1 Here Hicken was showing his companion how to set the safety on the revolver, a .32 caliber automatic, auto-matic, when it was accidentally discharged, dis-charged, the bullet going through the left hand and into Hickeus stomach. Truman Carson, who was about 100 yards away at the time of the mishap, rushed to the injured man, and together with Murdock, applied first aid. Meanwhile another Carson Car-son boy and W. C. Thomas of Fair-fie'ld Fair-fie'ld responded to calls for aid and assisted Hicken into the back of a truck and started for Lehi, no medical aid being available at Fairfield, Fair-field, i Dr. Guy S. Richards, answering a call from Thomas, met the party near Cedar Fort and administered an opiate, but the injured youtn died shortly afterward. The parents at Heber were notified and wrtit to Lehi. The body was taken in chaige by A. W. Wing, funeral director. Responding to a call notifying them of the accident, County Attorney Attor-ney George S. Ballif, Deputy Sheriffs Sher-iffs C. A. Coates and George Davis went to the? scene of the accident and made thorough investigation, which convinced them that the shooting was accidental. |
