Show 'Special class for educable planned here Special education services in Nebo School District have been expanded to include a class for educable children in Springville Spr-ingville high school. During the past year a high school special education program was introduced in Spanish Fork high school which provided both academic and vocational training for some of these students. Because of the increased in-creased demand for special education ed-ucation service, it was decided decid-ed to add the new unit in the local high school. Another program new to the Nebo School District, is the establishment of Nebo District Training Center for the mentally men-tally defective children of the district who at the present time, are unable to receive any vices in the public school system. The Training Center will be located in the home at 470 North 100 East in Spanish Fork and will serve children from the entire district. Mrs. Vilate Halladay will be the instructor in-structor in this unit. The district Special Education Educa-tion department has nine classes for educable children, one class for trainable children, child-ren, seven speech and hearing therapists, one teacher for the hearing impaired students, 3 teachers for homebound students stu-dents and three public health nurses. Nebo School District now has the most .complete special education services in the state according to latest reports from the State Department of Public Instruction. There are still additional classroom units that have been approvd by the state for Nebo School District but not organized because of the critical shortage of adequately ade-quately trained personnel to fill these teaching assignments. These classes will be organized as soon as teachers are available, avail-able, according to J. Dean Jones, Director of Special Education. |
