Show Retired officer, brother of focal lady, dies ' Military services 'were conducted con-ducted Wednesday at Fort Douglas for Lt. Col. W. C. (Woody) Herbert, 52, brother of Mrs. Roland (Fay) Oldroyd of this city, who died Wednesday, Wednes-day, Aug. 21, of a heart attack while hunting near Fairbanks Alaska. i Burial was in the military cemetery at Fort Douglas.' Lt. Col. Herbert had made a number of friends in Springville Spring-ville on his visits to his sister's sis-ter's home here before and after his retirement in February Febru-ary 1961. He had made his home in Fairbanks, Alaska for the past seven years. A native of Salina, he attended at-tended schools there and graduated grad-uated from Snow college. He received a BS degree in Pharmacy Phar-macy from University of Idaho Southern Branch and an M. A. degree is biochemistry from the University of Southern California. Cal-ifornia. He saw active duty with the Air Force during World War II in Arabia, South Africa, Germany, France, Greece and England and received a cita- tion from the British Government Govern-ment for his work in Greece. He served three tours of duty overseas and one in Alaska before retiring. He served as ROTC instructor at the U of California five years and was commander of the Artie Area Medical Dept. before his retirement. re-tirement. His hobby was hunting and fishing and he was following his favorite sport when he was stricken in the woodlands of 'Alaska. Sui'viving besides his wife, Maxine Wildman whom he married inv1959, are a daughter, daugh-ter, Mrs. Larry (Annette) Kimball Kim-ball of Ogden by his first marriage; mar-riage; one grandchild and two sisters, Mrs. Oldroyd of Springville Spr-ingville and Mrs. D u a n e (Anna) Buchanan of Kaysville. |
