She na-turally doesn't read a script as an adult, so Jewison used the rote system with the youngster in briefing her for scenes. Sometimes things happen in real life just like they do in movies. A perfect example, in the true Cinderella fashion, is ld Claire Wilcox, who plays the title role with Tony Curtis in Universal's "40 Pounds Of Trouble," next at-traction at the Rivoli Theatre, tonight, Friday and Saturday. She was selected for the plum role, her film debut, by Tony Curtis, producer Stan Margu-lie- s and director Norman Jewi-son. The trio had interviewed more than 300 youngsters from Hollywood to New York before catching Miss Wilcox on one of her TV commercials. Al-though she had never been in front of a movie camera be-fore, her screen test stood out like a prune in a basket of eggs, according to director Jewison. Marilyn Maxwell, Rip lorn, Jessie Royce Landis, John Dehner and Jim Backus are also starred in the Frank P. Rosenberg production in color. Hope celebrates 25th year on screen in 'Critic's Choice Making his screen debut in "The Big Broadcast" 25 years ago, a breezy young commed-ia- n with a curious profile and a magical way of extracting belly laughs from a single line interrupted his artful shenani-gans to sing a new, romantic ballad, "Thanks for the Mem-ory." The song has become his musical trademark and the public has been thanking him for the memorable impression he has made on the world's funny bone ever since. The gifted newcomer was Bob Hope, who celebrates 25 years as one of the most successful durable and best loved enter-tainers in screen history with his forty-fourt- h film role opposite Lucille Ball in "Crit-ic's Choice," the Warner Bros, comedy now at the Academy Theatre. As a milestone motion pic-ture, the Technicolor-Panavis-- J ion production is ideal. Bob's role as a shook --up drama crit-ic who gets outlandishly in-volved when his own wife turns playwright provides a superb showcase for the tal-ents that have made him a uniquely permanent part of the entertainment scene. tJ3owlincf Scored Early Bird Ladies League League Standings Team VV L Sage Inn 44 20 Cragun's Market .... 36 28 Smiths TV 29 35 Southeast Service .... 28 V2 35 Vz Allen Cleaners 28 36 Valley Packing 26y2 37V4 Ind. high series: Joan Cra-gu- n, Southeast Service, 502; Eunice Ewing, Smith's TV, 462; Evelyn Hatch, Valley Packing, 449.
