Winning essay The following description of the painting, "The Familiar" by Doyle Strong, was written by Toni Taylor and won first place in the high school essay contest on "my favorite paint-ing in the exhibit": in my black world i am alone now, in my world i am left alone, have i forgot that she lives on, tears too still I am now made of stone, confined to my quarters as i always have been, now without opening, this door is so locked from within, don't touch it, but why should i ask you cannot see it, it is my task, now life with-out love the life that is mine, only to see blackness when you are so gay. please let me remember a long dead day as you take me out and try to play just as you did but many miles away, i am now changed and you must be too, for there is no noon, the night must be near, wait, hold me, here, close to the heart of love, for wood has no heart now that it is changed, now that it is me. when i was brought here, i knew of the same, that i would love her but never need re-member her name, why did god do this, but have i a god. Oh, this is my love, this is my mold, this is my lost, now marked and sold, love that is not love will live on forever, how is this? so, must i explain i was her doll, i lived, i loved in vain. Law prohibits carrying of loaded firearm Utah law prohibits the car-rying of a loaded firearm in any vehicle at any time. This reminder was issued by the Department of Fish and Game today as the warming days of spring find more and more people going outdoors. This law has been in effect nearly four years ago when it was passed by the 1959 session of the State Legislature. Since that time several thousand ar-rests have been, made for vio-lations of this law. Goal of the legislation was to reduce the frequent gun ac-cidents which occur when this rule is violated. Accident fig-ures to date indicate a steady drop in car gun type acci-dents as a result. The law reads, "No person shall carry in any vehicle any firearms which have live am-munition in the firing cham-ber, other than a peace officer in performance of his duties or persons with a valid permit to carry firearms for the pro-tection of life or property." Firing chambers as defined by law include both barrels of a double barreled shotgun and all chambers in the .cylinder of a revolver. Remember the woman who .complained about having dish-pa- n dands ? She now suffers from push-butto- n fingers. It's only after seeing a class B picture that you realize that the real heroes are in the au-dience and not necessarily on the screen. Color reprints made available Full color reprints of covers from six recent issues of the Utah Fish and Game Magazine are now available. , Featuring wildlife paintings by Clark Bronson, illustrator for the Department of Fish and Game, the packet contains copies of the arctic greyling, mule deer, Canada goose, green-win- g teal, antelope, and coyote. The folio of six magazine cover reproductions is avail-able to the public through De-partment offices throughout the State at a nominal cost. From the activities in whi,ch he takes part, it is plainly seen that he is one of the busiest seniors on campus, while his picture in-dicates he is one of the hand-somest. Take into considera-tion the fact that he is Ski Club president, a'cappella choir social chairman and campaign manager for the Blue Party and it is readily seen that he is a hard worker. He takes an advanced placement English class and won a prize at the Granite High for an art ex-hibit. He is organist for his Priesthood quorum and holds down a part-tim- e job, besides playing golf and tennis. He plans to take pre-me- d at Utah State University and after graduation to enter the Uni-versity of Washington Dental School. i Creed Haymond Sam Levenson, comedian: "When I was a kid, I was sat-isfied with a small allowance. Today, the kids demand a guaranteed annual wage." "I have yet to hear of an endured by shady policies, or by knowingly putting unprin-cipled men in positions of trust. America just wasn't built that way." Lamont du Pont Grandfather: A grandchild's press agent. Highway accidents in the U. S. took a record number of lives in 1962. About 40,500 peo-ple died on the nations high-ways last year, and more than 3,345,000 were injured.
