Subscription In Advance, Per Year $4.50; Per Copy 10c : i ' - ; THE RITIS BROTHERS Arthur had been searching, 'twas years and years ago; To find his brother Ritis, who he didn't really know. He traveled from the east coast; then lander near the bay, But finally found his brother who was in the park one day. He threw his arms around him, says Ritis, "how's your pain?" Said he, "let's work together." So Arthritis is their name. Many prominent people, who are known for wealth and fame; Got acquainted with these brothers, but didn't like their names. These brothers are so clever, when once tiiey get inside; They never ever leave you until the day you die. They travel up your muscles; make your legs and knees so lame These brothers are so hard on you that you'll never be the same. The doctors say take aspirin, yes, ten or twelve a day; But these guys called Arthritis stay with you any way. If your knees and legs get better, your shoulders start to ache, And when you try to lace your shoes you feel your back will break. Your joints swell up, your spine gets curved, And your whole darned system is a bunch of nerves. So devoted are these brothers that they're never found apart; They travel round your shoulder blade and sometimes reach the heart; You get up in the morning to work just seems in vain, For you don't get any better, you just remain the same. The days seem sad and lonely; sometimes you cry and moan. These boys have reached the limit for they've got into the bone. They cripple up your body, then make you work for less, Till it takes most all that you have made to pay the SOS. And then at night when you go to bed, you cannot get to sleep; So you take another aspirin, for the stuff's got in your feet. I hope some day these brothers will be stranded all alone; Then the name of Arthritis will never more be known. MAE S. CHILD Expert Eye Caf by Dr. S. H. Tax increases result of state expenses State expenditures in, Utah will increase by $51 million next biennium as a result of new spending authorization by the 1963 Utah Legislature. iThis was shown in a detailed fiscal analysis of the 1963 Utah Legislature raised a number of taxes. Among the tax changes enacted were (1) a one-ha- lf cent increase in the sales tax, (2) a 4 cent per pack boost in the cigarette tax, (3) enactment of a 25 tax on other tobacco products, (4) a complete revision in the unemployed compensation tax rates and base, and (5). auth-orization for increased prop-erty taxes for school and li-brary purposes. In addition to the foregoing tax changes, the Foundation utan legislative session just released by Utah Foundation, the private governmental re-search organization. More than four fifths of the added funds to be made avail-able during the next two years will go for education, the Foundation reports. Increased appropriations and allocations for all other functions of state government account for less than 20 of the expected ex-penditure rise. To finance this increased spending program, the 1963 report notes that a single in-crease in the state property tax may be needed to finance the enlarged school program enacted this year. The state-wide property tax levy to bal-ance the uniform school fund amounted to 7.5 mills in 1961 and 7.1 mills in 1962. Based on revenue and school expendi-ture estimates for the next bi-ennium, this state property tax levy may go as high as 7.9 mills during each of the next two years.
