Show Winning essay The following description of the painting, "The Familiar" by Doyle Strong, was written by Toni Taylor and won first place in the high school essay contest on "my favorite painting paint-ing in the exhibit": in my black world i am alone now, in my world i am left alone, have i forgot that she lives on, tears too still I am now made of stone, confined to my quarters as i always have been, now without opening, this door is so locked from within, don't touch it, but why should i ask you cannot see it, it is my task, now life without with-out love the life that is mine, only to see blackness when you are so gay. please let me remember a long dead day as you take me out and try to play just as you did but many miles away, i am now changed and you must be too, for there is no noon, the night must be near, wait, hold me, here, close to the heart of love, for wood has no heart now that it is changed, now that it is me. when i was brought here, i knew of the same, that i would love her but never need remember re-member her name, why did god do this, but have i a god. Oh, this is my love, this is my mold, this is my lost, now marked and sold, love that is not love will live on forever, how is this? so, must i explain i was her doll, i lived, i loved in vain. |
