Leon Clyde claims bride in Salt Lake Temple rites The Salt Lake Temple was the setting for the marriage of Miss Aartje (Aty) Vander-hoof- t, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Peter G. Vanderhooft of Salt Lake City and H. Leon Clyde, son of Mr. and Mrs. Wm. R. Clyde of this city, De-cember 16. Immediately after the cere-mony, parents of the groom were hosts at a wedding breakfast at Hotel Utah for members of the wedding party. A wedding reception the same evening at the Winder Stake House, honored the cou-ple who greeted a host of re-latives and friends. Appliques trimmed the fitted bodice as well as the veil of illusion which was arranged to a crown of seed pearls and crystals. Her bouquet of pink elf roses was centered with a' white orchid. Sharon A. Taylor was maid of honor with Patty L. Bur-bidg- e, Marietta and Joan Clyde, sisters of the groom, brides-maids and another sister, Hel-en- e Clyde was flower girl. They wore blue brocaded taf-fet-ta frocks and held shower bouquets of white chrysanthe-mums and carnations. A basket of mums and pink elf roses was carried by the flower girl. Gerald R. Stevens was best man to the groom and ushers were Gerald F. Vanderhooft, Johannes L. Vanderhooft and Stanley Staten. The couple will be at home at 817 6th Ave. Apt. 3, Salt Lake City while both continue their education at the Univer-sity of Utah, where they are enrolled as juniors. Blr. and Mrs. H. Loon Clyde are making their home in Salt Lake City following their recent marriage in the Salt Lake Temple. A. ill Strong, Jr., has set her wedding date with James E. Wis-combe on Thursday, February 2, in the Manti Temple, engagement news reveals this week. Mr. Wiscombe is a yiLpon of J. Elmer Wiscombe of Mapleton and the late Mary rs Wiscombe. A wedding reception is planned for the couple Friday ,ouevening, February 3. Both are enrolled at Brigham Young University. The charming bride-ele- ct is a graduate of LDS Semin- - ry and of Springville High School where she was active in extra-curricul- ar affairs and was a member of the student 'O'rouncil. 3up After graduation from seminary and high school here, rUeMr: Wiscombe served three years in the United States Air Force, two years of the time in Japan. They plan to make their home in Springville. Student makes fine record Janet Rowland, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Max Rowland, Springville, has been honored for superior achievement in shorthand at a special awards assembly at Stevens Henager College, Salt Lake City. The annoucement was made this week by I. W. Stevens, college president. "Janet has made one of the college's outstanding records in shorthand during the past year," President Stevens said. Students achieving outstand-ing performance in a particu-lar subject are presented with a special award certificate. New offi-cers will also be elected, hostess to members of the occasion and guests watched the old year out and the New Year in as they ate a nicely arranged mid-nig- dinner. Kent LeeMaster, brother of the groom went to Seatle to be best man for his brother. The bride was graduated from Forest Ridge Convent and the University of Washington and attended the University of Munich, Germany. She is a member of Alpha Chi Omega sorority and Theta Sigma Phi, womens' journalistic fraternity. She was editor of her college paper and is one of 12 women in the nation on the Madamoi-sell- e magazine career panel. Parley attended Springville high school and the Utah State University. He also enrolled in the Overseas Division of the University of Maryland and the Frei University in West Ber-lin after completing a five-yea- r tour of duty with the Air Force.
