Surviving are his wife, Mary Rose Tomlinson Thatcher and five sons and daughters; also 30 grandchildren. Drowning Victim Father of SpringvISIe Lady One of the victims of the Utah Lake drowning Tuesday of last week was the father of Mrs. Arnold Roylance (Lu-cille) of Springville. Wilford Ernest Thatcher, 71, of Provo, who had gone fishing with a friend, James A. Halladay, 80, of Orem, lost his life as re-sult of a terrific wind on the lake. His body was rescued before noon Wednesday and services were conducted Saturday in the Provo Second ward chapel with burial in the Provo City ceme-tery. A native of Provo, Mr. That-cher had lived in Soda Springs, Ida., Roosevelt and Clausen, Emery county before moving back to Provo in 1939. He was Mental Health Program Set Friday Evening A half-ho- analysis of Men-tal Health in Utah will be pres-ented by Dr. Ray R. Canning 0f the BYU faculty, Friday, March 13 at 7:30 p.m. on tele-vision channel 7. The program will be sponsored by the Utah Academy of Sciences, Arts, and Letters and the Utah County Association for Mental Health. Dr. Canning's analysis will include the major areas of mental retardation, using films taken at the Utah State Train-ing School for the mentally de-ficient, mental illness, using films taken this week at the Utah State Hospital, and men-tal health showing individuals and organizations from this county who are contributing to the building of health person-alities. The program will be of gen-eral education value to people throughout the State, because it will indicate not only the ad-vances made in the State in the field of mental health, but also it will show how far short Utah falls in solving her needs. The program will coincide with the local drive for funds to support the Utah County Asso-ciation for Mental Health. Navyman Travels To Faraway Ports Quinn H. Sargent, seaman, USN, son of Mr. and Mrs. Da-vid M. Sargent of 358 N. Sec-ond W., Springville, is serving aboard the destroyer escort USS Philip, operating with the U.S. Seventh Fleet in the West-ern Pacific. The Philip left her home port, Pearl Harbor, Feb. 18, and during the scheduled five-mon- th cruise will take part in warfare and air defense exercises as well as amphibious training with the Fleet. While in the Far East the ship expects to visit Hong Kong, various Japanese, For-mosa- n and Phillippine Island ports. The Philip is a unit of Des-troyer Flotilla Five, a compon-ent of the Pacific Fleet Cruiser Destroyer Force which consists of 160 fast-movi- vessels. Navyman Returns From Far East Warren E. Child, seaman, USN, son of Mr. and Mrs. Verl E. Child of 373 So. 13th st., Sprngville, returned recently to Long Beach, Calif., Feb. 27 aboard the radar picket des-troyer USS Dennis J. Buckley after a six-mon- th tour of duty with the U. S. Seventh Fleet in the Far East. While with the fleet the ves-sel patrolled the waters off Formosa during the Quemoy Crisis. The Buckley also visited such ports as Sasebo, Japan, Pearl Harbor, Okinawa and the Phi-lippines. Turbine engine may lift .lelicopter sales. |
