Gubler, Springville Spring-ville member of the BYU faculty, lias been named Utah's outstanding officer in the Air Force Reserve in which he holds the rank of major. Springville Man Makes Record In AF Reserve A Springville man, Donworth V. Gubler, 312 West First No., member of the BYU teaching staff, recently won state wide recognition as the outstanding officer in the Air Force Reserve Re-serve in which he holds the rank of major. Commander of the local squadron which comprises flights in Richfield, Price, Vernal Ver-nal and Provo, Major Gubler has headquarters in Provo. The 9424th A Reserve Squadron Squad-ron which Major Gubler commands com-mands was also judged the outstanding out-standing squadron in the state. The annual award was made by Major General Sory Smith, commanding general of the 4th Air Force at Hamilton Air Force Base. Major Gubler served on active ac-tive duty from 1942 to 1946 and was then recalled in 1950, serving 4 more years. During World War II he flew 28 missions mis-sions over Germany as Group bombardier and during the Korean Ko-rean War saw action in that .theater. He has been awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross. Air Medal, Purple Heart, U. N. Service Medal, Korean Service medal and many others. He is a graduate of the Brigham Young University with a Masters Mas-ters Degree and is presently an instructor in Russian and German at the "Y". He is married to the former Harriet Mace of Kanab.' They have eight children. He has been commanding officer of-ficer of the 9424th Squadron since December 1956. |
