Knerr of the state industrial commission. A mass meeting of the journeymen, at which Mr. Knerr was present, was held yesterday at the Iabor temple, and ofte a vote had been taker, the following leUcr was drawn up 'and given to Mr. Knerr to tie presented to the master bakera: "The bakery and confectionery workers eamiot see their way clear to agree to the arbitration of any question until the Master Bakers' association has first agreed to the status quo. That is to tay, the men must return to work under tho same conditions as existed prior to May 1. Until this question has beer, definitely determined, we do not care to commit the organization either for or against the question of arbitration. Tho condition specifically referred to is covered by the first clause of the agreement in effect prior to May 1, Ifllfl." Mr. Knerr said last night that he had done-all ho could to bring alout the arbitration, arbi-tration, and that until either party gave in there was not much hope of a settlement settle-ment being reached by arbitration. Meeting with representatives of the Bakers' and Confectioners' union and the Master Bakers' absoctarlon at the capitol yesterday, . Mr. Knerr addressed a letter to a committee of tho latter and one to the secretary of the union, setting forth the t differences. In part, the letter to the nuion follows: "The master bakers have agreed that jill workmen can return to their former positions without prejudice or discrimination, whatever. The master bakers have no objection whai-soever to your union and will not discriminate against any member thereof. But they reserve the right to employ whoever they see fit, regardless of whether or not they are affiliated with any union." The letter sent to the master bakers says: "The propria tors agree to employ only members of Lota! 63. in good standing, stand-ing, or, in case no member of this union Is obtainable, those willing to make application appli-cation for membership and pay the initiation initia-tion fee within one week." Owners and managers of some of the smaller bakeries donned their aprons yesterday yes-terday and went to work in an effort to supply the wants of their customers. A joint conference of employers and mill workers met with Mr. Knerr yesterday to ! discuss questions which caused the strike i of 150 of the latter.
