May 6 -The Utah '''" college track and baseball men will m- their first appearance In a com pet Hive meet this week-end at Salt the University of Utah in two baseball games and a track and field meet This being the Initial appearance for the Aggies it is difficult to determine what their strength ni?ht be, but Coach Lowe.l Rom-ncy Rom-ncy is confident that his men will make a favorable showing. The Aggies' baseball men are show.ns up well In wotkouts. but during last week they found trouble in winning from the Profs" of the school In a real contest. However, they are not dissatisfied with this showing, as they aver that even the best of teams loso ofttlmes. Asa Dewey, Ralph Smith and Brn Hansen Han-sen will do the flinging or tho Farmers Dewey is a former B. Y C. man and Smith learned to twirl on the vacant lots of Logan, as also (lid Hansen, ple-r-h wiU be on the receiving end ap? 'b showing show-ing class there. Dave Cox will likely play first base, Lee Jarvis second base, Curly Bowen third. Lyn Andrus snortstop, v, lth Captain Stubby Peterson, Jordan .balUv and Ferguson in the outfield. The Afrgio track prospects took a sntnt slump when Captain Curly Bowen suffered suf-fered an inured ankle in sliding into a base during baseball practice, and consequently conse-quently had to quit running. A successor to Bowen will be elected this week. Carl (Stubbv) Peterson will run .he 100-vard dash and low hurdles. Peterson lorg since established his reputation and is known, in all athletic circles in Ltah. This is tho fourth season Stubby ins worn the Aggie colors. Charles Jacques, winner of the cross-country and a former B. Y. C. distance runner, will run the mile and the half for the Aggies. Close on hia heels, if ho is able to take the lead of his other classmates at all, will be W.ay-mar. W.ay-mar. and White. Nagle and Hatch will run the quarter-mile and Falck Is expected ex-pected to show in the 220-yard race and also in the relay race. Woriey is a weight man. Frog McDonald Is Romney's versatile versa-tile performer, and is slated to take part in the high hurdles, shot-put, discus, polo valut, broad Jump and high Jump. Anderson An-derson and Andrus will heave the shot and hammer. Aside from the routine of activities at the college the Aggies are busy preparing a reception for the high school athletes who will take part in the coming Utah state interscholastic track and field meet on May 16 at Logan. Many of the state high school men. especially those in tiie southern part of the state, have never been in Logan or in northern Utah at all, and It is the plan to show them some of the country that helps make Utah a great state. On Thursday evening. May 15. at 6 o'clock, the .Aggies-' baseball club will play the "U" and again on Friday morning following. The big high school meet will take place in the afternoon of that day, anel in the evening the visitors will be socially entertained. |
