Show HOTEL UTAH TO lIDflTIl Extension Will Provide 100 More Rooms at Cost of $350,000. 1 Additions to ihe Hotel Utah, involving I an expenditure of approximately (300,040, and increasing the number of rooms from j 500, the present number, to 600, will be started within the next few days. George O. Rolf, manager, announced yesterday. The work will not be completed until summer, owing to the cold weather, but at least thirty rooms will be finished and I ready for use by early spring. The estimated value of the hotel as it now stands Is placed at $2.;00,000. In 1914, just before the world wrr started, plans were marie for additions to the building, and the estimates made at that time were just hnlf of what It costs now for the construction work. The furnishings furnish-ings now will cost probably a third more. Mr. Helf said. The two additions will include an extension ex-tension on the north of the present west Wing ami another story on the east wing. This latter addition will balance with the roof garden, which is on the west wing, and will provide thirty -six more rooms. The work o:i this addition will begin at once. The extension on the west wing, which will be divided into sixty-four ronms, will not be started until the weather breaks in the spring. This part will extend about forty-five feet north and will be fifty-four fifty-four feet wide. The work will be done I in terra cotta and white enameled brick. j and when completed will not show where the addition begins. An archway, narrow at the opeulng and widening upon entrance into the court, will be built In order to allow access ac-cess to the rear of the building. The end of the new wing will come within twenty feet of the Bishop's building of the latter-day Saints church. This is the second time an addition has been built to nceommodate the Increased In-creased business of the Hotel Utah since Its construction. The east wing was not originally as long as the west wing, and later it was lengthened, making the en-I en-I tire length of the building 210 feet. The west wing is now 165 feet. When the addition Is completed It will be equal in length with the east wing. The furnishings of the 100 new rooms will average more than $400 a room, an additional expenditure of about $40,000. |
