Show SPORT GOSSJP BESSES? Charles H. Ebbets proposes a ball game at the Brooklyn's grounds as a testimonial, testi-monial, to Jimmy Ring, the net receipts to go to this player, who pitched so well for Cincinnati in the world's series. A team made up of International league stars and the Empire Baseball club of Brooklyn, with Ring as pitcher, would draw a big gate, in his opinion, and to back it he offers the use of Ebbets field free on behalf of the club, which will purchase ?250 worth of tickets. The central board of football officials plans to eectionaUze the assigning of officials of-ficials to college games so as to reduce the expenses of trips. CHICAGO, Oct. 16. Grover Cleveland Alexander, ace of the Chicago Cubs' pitching staff, has signed his contract for another campaign under the Cub standard. That Aleck would again be on deck when the Bruins squared off for the 1920 flag marathon has never been doubted since the big right-hander came from the war and regained his old-time curving curv-ing form. He has been on the north side roster two seasons, but in neither 1918 nor the present grind was able to give the home team the sort of records he was accustomed to setting with the Phils because he was in military service in 1918 and this summer was laid up with an ailing salary arm. The San Francisco and St. Paul baseball base-ball clubs will play their three-game series se-ries in San Francisco and Oakland on October 18 and 19, according to George Putnam, secretary of the Seals. Putnam stated last night that he had received positive information from the south that the ohjection raised by the Vernon management had been overcome and that the champions of tiie American association would come here no matter how they finish with the kinpplns of the Pacific Coast league. San Francisco Examiner. Ex-aminer. SAX FRANCISCO, Oct. IS. Willie Meehan, champion peeve developer of all the world, has become quite uneasy and restless. He has not received any information, infor-mation, direct or otherwise, as to whether his proposed match with Jack Dempsey, champion heavyweight fighter of all the world, is on or off, or in or out. It was generally supposed that Meehan and Dempsey were to tear at each other in Newark, N. J., on Thanksgiving night. Meehan gave his consent through his manager, Dem Gay, and let It go at that. But Willie's consent has been overruled by his Latest peeve. He also has developed devel-oped an impatient streak and he says that unless he gets a line from the Newark New-ark promoters very shortly he will pack up his baggage and invade Newark in search of an explanation. "I beat Dempsey three times and I can beat him again if they give me a chance," peeved Willie last night. "They told me a couple of weeks ago that the match was on for Newark. I have been working work-ing out at the Coliseum every day and I am In pretty good shape, but I ain't going go-ing to work for nothing. You know me. "If I don't get a line in a day or two, I'll hop back there myself. I know that Dem Gay has been doing the best he can for me, but I just don't like the way those Newark fellows have been acting. Dempsey has got to fight me and I'm going to make him fight." It is generally understood that the Newark match is all set, but Wiilie, being be-ing a temperamental young man, is not satisfied unless he receives daily assurance assur-ance that everything is jake.
