Show LAND RECLAMATION. I During the last six wcelta the people ' of rural counties in Georgia have been receiving a liberal education in the art i of stump-pulling. L-argo crowds have '' assembled at demonstration centers to j learn front specialists tho beat methods 1 cf land clearing, and a state-wide cam- ! paign conducted for tho purpose has in- atructed thousands. j A special train composed of four flat cars loaded with demonstration equipment, equip-ment, a sleeping coach, a pai-sengt'r coach, two box cars and a caboose has been touring tho state, making btops at a facoro of towns and villngcs. The first day of carh stop has been occupied with unloading the stump-pullers, tractors and otIT machinery, and the giving of a motion picture show in the evening, poeial films have been effective in illustruting the benefits to bo derived from clearing land. No rolling roll-ing or solicitation of talcs by representatives represen-tatives of implement manufacturers is permitted on the demonstration field. The exhibitions hrnv been under the direction di-rection of the extension department of the Georgia tate College of Agriculture, Agricul-ture, the T.'nited States department of agriculture, the railroad administration, and a land owner ' a ssor i i r ion. . .St some of the towns the coming of tho train was made the occasion of a holiday, with a picnic, barbecue, free re irr -diluents and free amusements as incidentals. It is tl3 belief of the directors of this instructional enterprise that the demonstrations will result in the reclamation recla-mation of thousand- of acres of the nio.t fertile land in the 5011th. |
