In anticipating antici-pating that legislation to stop profiteering profi-teering sooa will beeomo effective, the department of .justice is putting tho fi-ual fi-ual touches to its plans for procedure when the new weapons aro available. Attorney General Palmer today called a meeting or' tho conferees who took tho cost of living problem under ad-viivmeut ad-viivmeut nearly three mouths ago. Secretaries Sec-retaries Glass, Houston ami Wilson, Chairman Murdock and W. 13. Colver of tho federal trade commission; Director Direc-tor General Hines, Assistant Attorney General Ames, Assistant Secretary of the Treasury LcffingwcU and 11. K. Figg, assistant to Judge Ames, were present. After a review of tho progress made so far, which was said to be very gratifying, grati-fying, considering that none ol the laws lvouested of congress have been placed on the statute books, tho conferenco confer-enco diseussed new steps lo bo taken when the "real campaign'' is started. Officials declined to indicate what they had in mind, but it is known that Attorney At-torney General Palmer is prepared to proceed vigorously in a number of individual in-dividual cases. Another conference is to be held later in the week when Secretaries Baker and Daniels aro expected to attend and to adviso concerning the release of surplus sur-plus foodstuffs still held by the military mili-tary departments of the government. Secretary Baker todnv cancelled instructions instruc-tions for the distribution of sugar held bv tho army, on learning that the supply sup-ply was available for only two and one-half one-half months in advance. Planning to take the public inlo his confidence concerning action against the cost of living, Attorney General Palmer will make a number of trips into adjoining states, beginning the latter part of this month. |
