Show IDAHO INTERESTED IN HIGHWAY RESOLUTION Special to The Tribune. BOISE, Idaho. Dec. 29. A resolution was adopted at the recent meeting of the American Association of State Highway High-way Officials at Louisville, Ky.f in which good road advocates of Idaho are interested, inter-ested, W. J. Hall, state commissioner of public construction of this state, announced an-nounced this week on his return from that city. This was a resolution which Commissioner Hall succeeded in having passed, calling on congress to pass legislation legis-lation by which states with large areas of public lands will cooperate with the federal government in building roads through public lands. There are 62 per cent of the lands in this state that are classed as public. Should congress adopt the suggestion of this Idaho official, the result will be great impetus to the good roads program of this state. The resolution asks congress con-gress to so relieve the public land states by increasing the amount of federal allotment al-lotment to them so that the state may cooperate on building roads for only 50 per cent of (!2 per cent, which is 31 per cent of the lands in the state of Idaho. Another resolution that wa.s adopted, states Commissioner Hall, tha t will hasten the completion of the main highway high-way systems, provides that federal aid In a county shall not be extended on branch roads until the main highways are completed. com-pleted. A companion resolution provides that adjacent states must connect at their borders with other states, thereby making possible complete transcontinental transconti-nental highways. State Highway Engineer Olson was also in attendance at the convention with Commissioner Hall and urged the new road program. |
