Kxpulsion of tho Chinese from Mexico was a result of the campaign being made in that country against the immigration of Asiatic labor. They were driven across the Guatemalan Guate-malan frontier by native laborers. MEXICO CITY, Monday, Oct. 2. Concrete evidence ol" German colonization coloniza-tion plans for Mexico was revealed here today with the announcement of an enterprise en-terprise for the irrigation of 200.000 lieu-tares lieu-tares of laud in the Fuerte river valley, in the state of Siualoa, where thousands of German immigrants are expected to buy small parcels of land on a twenty-year twenty-year payment plan. The corporation is being final ed by Jose Meakany, a Mexico City capi talis t, with the support of General Ramon Iturhe, governor of Sinaloa. It is proposed pro-posed to construct a dam at Saint Bias, securing from the government a concession conces-sion for the use of enoug h water from the Fuerte river for Die proposed colony. The land is declared to be extremely fertile and the plan is being backed by German banks here. Until a. few munths ago tho water concession con-cession for the Fuei' to valley was held by the United Sugar company of Los Mochis, Sinaloa, headed by Benjamin F. Johnson of Chicago. I II. The concession of the sugar companies granted twenty years ago was for the use of 75 per cent of the river's flow, but it is declared to have been decreased to eight cubic meters per second. Promoters of the present irrigation project declare the old concession was reduced becauso of the opposition of many landholders along the Fuerte river to tho company's controlling 75 per cent of the water while only owning 5 per cent of the. land in that region which could he irrigated. |
